Two playthoughs now and it still irritates me.

Even the Awakening endings were better than this.  We just all run away? Hawke disappears? We have no idea what happens to our companions?

(Isabela stays with me, even though I romanced Merrill?)

That's not even an ending.  The story just staggers across the finishing line and collapses.

I dislike a lot  about DA2 but even a half-decent ending could have saved it for me.

to be fair, it's as definite an ending as 'The Empire Strikes Back' had..or Mass Effect 2.

THIS.

I always wait until the ending of something before I make my final decision.  There was a lot I disliked throughout the game, but I put up with it in the hopes of a decent ending.  I was met only with disappointment, and the things I did enjoy about the game now feel invalid.

To quote my good friend, "Varric was such a cool character.  Now all I can think about is what a bad storyteller he is."

Its just a set-up for a bigger storyline, but yes it is a huge cliffhanger of a very annoying ending.

I'm pretty sure this is a confirmed bug in Varric's final speech.

Even ME2 had a better end than this. There was some closure. Miranda tells the Illusive Man to ****** off. Shepard tells the lllusive Man to ****** off. Shepard walks past all her surviving friends, all of whom are working on the Normandy. She looks up... and the stars look back. Then she goes upstairs for lapdances with Kelly. (You can even have a brief chat to your companions about the ending).

That's certainly a better ending than DA2. There's literally no closure.

Nonsense.

I posted above that ME2's brief ending is reasonably satisfactory.  You get some closure and anticipate what comes next, Shepard vs the Reapers.

And in 'ESB', it ends with Luke getting his artificial hand and musing about the inevitable showdown to come.

We simply don't know what will happen in DA3.  The ending is so sudden and garbled.

I knew this was coming as soon as I heard them saying "framed narrative".

Besides, DA2 is just a big setup for Dragon Age 3.

The problem is it doesn't make me want more.

Actually the current issues that have surrounded DA2...well let's just say I may never buy another Bioware game again.

I just don't know any more.

The lead writer and developer are sticking their middle fingers at fans. Saying rude things. And even being rude to community members.

Here's how trilogies work these days: 1 complete movie, 1 half movie that merely has the same setting with a cliff-hanger of doom, and the other half movie that spends the first 5 minutes undoing what the second movie did and then going off and doing its own thing.

Star Wars OT began it (and Lucas is full blame on Ep. 6 given Kurtz's and Ford's interviews). Recent entries to the Trilogy Tragedies: Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean...

Will we add Mass Effect and Dragon Age to those? We will see.

In both my Hawkes it sounds like there is something else being said at the same time.  But the Isabela one is more outfront.  On my latest one I could have sworn I heard Anders name behind Isabelas.  Even though he had the romance broken off after the sex and then was killed.

To be fair the whole game was a setup for something bigger. Third installment will probably be smack in the middle of a huge Mage vs Templar war. Probably even with a threat of an exalted march.

This!

And I also felt the non-ending cheats you of a victory.  Why not make our choices mean something?  Templar finale lets Hawke be the ruler and brutally surpressing the mages.  Mage finale sees Cullen and his goose-steppers hung in the streets while Hawke negociates with other Circles.   Let us feel as if our choices actually meant something.

Well I would take it as a 'to be continued'.

Pretty sure Hawke is the main protagonist of DA3. So DA2 is like ... the origin story. What I don't understand is why Hawke is supposed to be the one who can keep it all together. I mean is there nowhere in Thedas someone like Hawke? I mean Hawke is great and all, but there must be someone ...

I kind of read the scene with Cassandra and Leliana at the end as leaving things open for a new protagonist in DA:3.

"But Bioware what do you mean we can't play as Hawke or the Warden?"
"This new character sucks Hawke and Warden could take down these jokers with one hand tied behind their backs!"
"Uhh yeah but Cassandra and the Seekers can't reach them right now."

The ending was.. confusing. I'd at least expected an epilogue like DAO, or anything at all! I was actually sitting through the end creds just to see if there was more. For such a good game, I was truly disappointed at the ending. DA3 better come quick If this was supposed to be the origin for it :)

Tbh I find the Hawke story as far as we know it from DA2 a bit disappointing. Hawke is supposed to be the most important person of Thedas according to Bioware, unless that changed after release. How can the one who more or less accidently started the war be more important than the one who ends it?
