I'm doing a playthrough of DAO so I can try Awakening (which I haven't played yet). I initially didn't want to romance Alistair, but now I've decided to.

I already (nicely) turned down the early romance options. He's around 50 approval, and I figured I could start a romance after completing his personal quest. This doesn't seem to be working however, as there's no option after meeting his sister that leads to romance.

Is it too late, or is there another way situation that will start a romance? I haven't given him either of his cutscene gifts, so that maybe that works?

Have you given him his mothers Amulet which is located in the castle of Redcliffe? That's also a way to instigate a romance, by saying something like 'Of course I remembered! You're special to me'.

I should really read the whole thing. You apparantly haven't given him the amulet, so yes, there's still a way! :]

You should get a romance starter with his plot gifts. See if there is a line where you can tell him "because you're special to me."

If you do not have a line saying, "Has anyone ever told you how handsome you are," appearing, the romance is cut off and it cannot be started.

Edit: Even giving him his personal gifts will not change this.  You just won't have the romance starter lines in the ensuing dialogs.

Maybe I missed something, but you have to be playing a female charater to romance Alister right?

a mod or the original unpatched version. in My first run though Alistair was glad to be gay
