If at all possible, I would love for the modding wizards in the community to find a way to make the likelihood of a npc exploding in all bits and chunks a lot less than it is now.
I do not see the immersion in a single sword strike, all-be-it from an ability suddenly put my foes into bloody pieces.
The death animations of NPCS that occur when they do not explode are far more visceral and real and satisfying to look at beforehand.
Can this be done?

I second this, late in the game playing as a two-handed warrior, I exploded everything and everyone which kinda kills the realism.

Agreed with the people above me.

Maybe it's subjective, but I swear I get way more exploding bodies when Varric is in the group. It rarely happens with melee, but if he is in the group things become an exploding body party.

I once had Isabella kick a bandit in the face - and he exploded.
Less exploding bodies would be nice, I don't mind it sometimes (shattering people, going through a bunch of folks with Scythe etc) but sometims it is a bit too much.

If i remember right, the explosion thing is done if the damage inflicted on the enemy exceeds certain amount of their health, or something like this. The force associated with the hit can have something to do with it, too.
Hopefully the thresholds are variables in one of the .gda files rather than something hard-coded.

With my rogue, I had a 110% crit chance with 205% damage bonus... end game -everything- exploded. I hate it. I want the awesome combat-lock finishers from DA:O, dang it.

Agreed. I'll take super awesome finishers over lame exploding bodies anyday.
I swear, the amount of exploding bodies just makes the battlefield like some teenager's face- popping fleshy zits everywhere.

It is rather hilarious to see enemies just fall apart at the joints, even their hair and helmet disappear! I don't mind gore, but I kinda liked it in the prologue/demo when you used Scythe and the enemies would be cut in half at the waist, rather than just falling to bits.

it's hard enough to try and feel any type of emersion w/out fountains of blood spraying all over the place and body parts bouncing around during every battle

Oh yes, a thousand times yes.
I swear, it seems the only thing in this game that reliably leaves a corpse are spiders - and they don't even have real skeletons! Everything else is 90% of the time nothing but a wimpy bag of blood that will explode violently if you sneeze too hard. I was sick of the kablooie blood bags before the prologue was over.

A thousand times yes, it's so silly and kills immersion.

Same here. I really miss the dual-wield finishing moves, etc.

I agree. I can understand magic finishing moves causing people to explode, but kicking someone in the face? Totally kills the immersion.

I ... laughed.. when I used Twin Fangs on anything and they exploded, to me that was the only really acceptable time it happened.
