The release of Dragon Age II signal's the beginning of the end for PC RPG gaming. The day's of fantastic games such as:
  •  Bauldar's Gate

  •  Planescape Torment

  •  Icewind Dale

  •  Bauldar's Gate II - Shadow's of Amn

  •  Icewind Dale II

  •  Neverwinter Nights

  •  and finally... Dragon Age: Origins
are over.

Dragon Age II is not a PC-RPG game. Dragon Age II is a console game. I was reading a gamespot review where the reviewer states:
" inventory management and skill progression, have been stripped down in one way or another--a case of developer BioWare inexplicably fixing that which wasn't broken."
The answer is simple, this makes the game more accessable on consoles.
I was hoping beyond hope that Bioware would not do this. This stripping down is one of the reasons that this game does not measure up to the brilliant RPG's that came before.

Maybe there is not enough money in PC gaming.
Maybe EA has a hand in making sure this game played well to the console crowd.
Who knows..
Dragon Age II is a great action-rpg game.. but it not a PC game at all .. it is a port of a console game.
Too bad.

Well each console generation the gap does get narrower. Now we don't see any really great improvement in graphics only "superficial" effects.

We might see another one in the future, but for right now sadly I think we might have to live off console ports.

Yeah, because if there's one thing that truly defines "role playing a character in a fantasy world of magic," it's managing pixels in a graphical user interface.

I bet he hasn't played half of those games...well 2 only. ICW is a mindless hack n slash game. Not bad...but DA2 does it much better.

I can't help but think that IWD is a more appropriate abbreviation

EDIT

And why is it Planescape Torrent? This whole thread is a troll, isn't it?

Yes I have played all of those games..

Bauldar's Gate with the 6 CD's you had to swap in and out every time you moved up and down the map...

IWD with the HOW expansion was my favorite.. but I like hack and slash.. And I can't get BG2 to run on Windows 7.. any suggestions?

It is very true, but they cant resist the casual game money. Its sad but they all sell out eventually.

If we add in Planescape Torrent can we add the old Fallouts as well?

After reading through this post again I noticed that the 'Of Amn' belongs to the 'Shadow'

ESL or troll, I can't decide...

Three things:

1) This is right up there with the "kids these days are worse than ever! In my days..." People have been arguing the death of PC games or PC game genres since PC gaming began.

2) Not everyone agrees with you about the quality of this game or the other games on your list

3) There are other makers of RPGs for PC, You know that, right? The fact that Bioware != cRPG does not mean cRPG = Bioware.

Ah yes, "Bauldar's Gate" - surely you must have loved that one, since you still remember how to spell the difficult name. And those Planescape Torrents...

Oh well.. thanks for picking apart my spelling.. great way to miss the point.

I always forget that forums are just places where trolls come to prove how witty and smart they are.

Forget I wrote anything and continue talking to yourselves..

Oh ye gods, PC gaming is dead again...for the umpteenth time. Man, this gets tiresome, PC gaming was dead when Kotor came out, it was dead when Oblivion came out, it was dead when ME 1 came out...and it keeps resurrecting itself somehow...amazing.

Dude, get a grip, please, just because DA 2 does things differently than DAO does not signify the death of PC gaming not in the least because DAO was released the same way as DA 2, on multiple platforms.

Well, OP two of the games you've listed come with toolsets--NWN and DA:O. Instead of wasting time and energy handwringing over "the demise of PC gaming" you could crack those toolsets open and make games more to your own tastes.

I understand that some of the pc features from origins that were removed should have been kept but I did not think the game felt like a console port. In my opinion it plays perhaps a tad better on pc than it does on the consoles themselves. In no way do I think DA 2 is signaling the end of pc gaming either.
