"Its been ten years since the Champion of Kirkwall fled the destruction of the city he had sort of caused. I say "sort of" because no matter what action, or even inaction, he chose, the events were totally unavoidable. After the Qunari war occured, despite every possible attempt to avert it, the Champion brought the final blow to Kirkwall with the Templar / Mage war. Some say he sided with the Templars, other say the Mages, and even more say he kept trying to take the middle path, showing both sides they were right ...and wrong. Alas, no matter his path, the same result ensued. Nearly every mage in Kirkwall turned out to be a blood mage or harboured some sort of dread demon and the Templars had nearly as much to do with demonic possession. Everyone was basically wrong and evil and after the war destroyed the city and spread to cities across the land, the great and noble Champion of Kirkwall fled the city, abandoned his friends, and holed up somewhere to mull over his inability to save a single person, the one-by-one picking off his entire family and terrible tragedies he failed to avert."

"Do I want to know what happened next, grandfather?"

"No, child, and neither do I."
