This was from DA:O

The first of the magus cast themselves deep in the Fade in search of answers and power, always power. They found the forbidden ones- Xebenkeck, Imshael, Gaxkang the Unbound, and The Formless One. Many conversations were had and much of the fabric of the world revealed. And thus the magic of blood was born.

So, we may have killed Gaxkang in DA:O, then some people may have killed Xebenkeck in DA2.

Any ideas if the other two are going to show up?

And there seems to be an small but perhaps potential over-arch with these side quests. Gaxkang and Hybris talk to you, even for just a little bit, hinting at stuff that might be part of the future.

Is "killed" the correct term for spirits of the fade? I've always been under the impression they just go on back in some form or another, their time in the mortal realm only temporary.
