Why does Isabela disapprove of me taking sidequests?

But... agreeing to help Fenris isn't sticking my nose into his business, is it? He rather involved me in his business by setting me up...? Was there an option to extort coin from him that I missed?

Isabela doesn't enjoy risking her own skin to help others. Especially if no coin (or fun) is involved. Perhaps I should have phrased it that way instead.

Ooohhh. Okay. Thank-you for clearing that up ^_^

You can have a rivalry romance with all the LIs.

I was hoping for a rivalry romance with Isabela in my next playthrough, but the official guide says you "have to be on a friendship path to complete the romance with Isabela, though this isn't necessary for the first steps."

Does that mean the guidebook is wrong (I hope)?

And thanks for writing her.  She's an interesting character (as are they all).

Sheryl can you explain her take on justice? I know she tends to approve of killing people who deserve it but does she have a different reason for it? I know with Anders she argues about the idea of Justice, that's why I am wondering.

Also I want to thank you for writing Isabela. She is one of my fav characters ever, my third fav romance too. Good job :wizard:

As a general rule, Isabela doesn't like it when you stick your nose into someone else's business. Everytime someone mentions a problem, and Hawke goes "Me! Me! Let me help! I want to help!" Isabela rolls her eyes and groans inwardly.

That said, gaining rivalry is not a bad thing. Isabela may find Hawke insufferable for a while, but be consistent enough about your do-gooder ways, and Izzy may come to realize that there's something more to life than being a self-serving wench.

That's what I hoped was the case, and I was super-pleased with Isabela's rivalry arc. I'm kind of disappointed that the friend arc is mostly the same, except Isabela's nicer to you at the midway point. I kind of wish Isabela would remain a consistently self-interested/awful person if you curried her favor with that kind of behavior (not that it's necessary), but that would be pretty annoying and dramatically unsatisfying, in all likelihood. Still, great job. Isabela's one of my favorite characters.

You shouldn't have to be on the friendship path with her to complete the romance. I'm fairly certain I wrote rivalry lines for her romance. That bit of misinformation probably just slipped through. Oops.

You've probably already noticed that Isabela's an impulsive sort of creature. Generally she's not thinking too far ahead when she encourages Hawke to do away with people who deserve it (like Kelder). She's certainly doesn't maintain a very consistent moral outlook. She does what feels right at the moment. In Kelder's case, she's thinking, "This man is a broken, cowardly abuser. And he wants to die. Do it already." If Kelder had four Tal-Vashoth bodyguards standing by, she might feel differently.

And sometimes Isabela argues with Anders (and other followers) just to provoke them. ;)

Just to ask the obvious question and be clear, when you say Rivalry romance is possible you are saying that it is possible to follow the, "Yes, I'm bringing feelings into this" path on that route? Or simply the fling that you can have.

Like with Aveline?

Anyways thank you Sheryl, I find Isabela a very complex character so I like to learn more about her

I don't know about Isabela but when you "rivalmance" Fenris there are feelings. I would assume it is the same for all LIs.

Oh and Sheryl, Isabela is great! I wasn't really expecting to love her so much but I really do. She and my Lady Hawke are the best of friends...and I swear I laugh at her more than anyone else. Brilliant job! :)

The chat you have with her if you romance Merrill after romancing Isabela for a while is the perfect example of that, I love her and Merrill's banter as well.

Still, she's never spoken to me one-on-one yet. I've been told that she'll start hitting on me soon after I meet her but she hasn't made a move yet. What am I doing wrong and do I have to say the right thing right after meeting her to start a romance?

Dunno my Isabela (100% friendship, romance complete (2nd kiss scene etc)) is ok with the sidequests :P
She didn't mind at all once I got her to max friendship, and I wasn't aware of too many "disapprovals" before that either, even when agreeing to help the dwarf find his sons she was ok with that. Seems she changes her outlook depending on how you interact with her?

Sheryl, I know that this is very early but, will Isabela be getting an alternate outfit anytime soon? I'm not complaining about the one she's wearing (because I absolutely love it), I was just wondering if. I also saw a screenshot somewhere of her wearing a different outfit.....was that from bioware or was that some homemade hack? By the way, as of the moment I first saw her in the Hanged Man....Isabela became my #1 undisputed bioware girlImage IPB........sorry Ash.

I don't have a problem with rivalry points or going down the rivalry path. I just have problems understanding what my companions want/think sometimes ^_^;;

Yes you can extort gold from him ;)

I don't know if I could do that... Fenris kind of reminds me of Eeyore

Wow, so now that Isabela has earned just as much friendship as she has rivalry, I think I'll just try to make her a rival since I'm still in act 1 and I never got her companion quest/dialog yet.

I found that romance paths really don't begin properly until act 2. There was a serious lack of companion dialogue for the first act. I did Merrill's romance and i only remember the initial one conversation in act 1 after she joins you. In Act 2 she had a lot more to talk about like the rest of the companions.

I just like the "Don't you like following hawke? I like following hawke" or some such line merrill gives after you flirt with her that first time. She's so freeking adorable that I am actually playing a male playthrough so I can protect her!

On to Izzy though! This current play thorugh I couldn't get her in one direction or the other, and ended up making her leave forever :( It sucks, because her act3 banter with Avaline are gold. Who knew the "Woman shaped wall" and the "Slattern" could end up being such good friends? XD

Isabela is awesome. I tend to have her almost capped out by the end of act 1 ( I guess we think alike).

The whole Kelder thing I always took as she has always shown that she really dislikes women being abused - he abuses/kills elven girls - so she wants him dead. That one act (Which I enjoyed doing) gained me approval from both izzy and Aveline. :)
