So its possible for Anders and Leilana to die in Origins/Awakenings.

I'm betting despite this presumably altering the entire game massivly it ends up being insignificant or nothing happens?

Anyone tried it?

Anders can "die" in an epilogue. Bioware said the epilogue lied.

Leliana can be "killed" during the Sacred Ashes quest. Bioware told us we only think we killed her.

Leliana definately appears even if you kill her in Origins. Not sure about Anders but I'd assume he does aswell since he's so important for Act 3.

I think "We weren't entirely sure who we were going to put into DA2 when we made those Epilogues, so behold RETCON" sums that whole situation up nicely.

No you didn't.

You only think you did.

And even if you did - it was just a flesh wound.

Something is not right with that mountain, magic is strong, what the Warden saw might not be the whole truth.

Epilogue is simply ignored :)

Considering it is quite possible that you killed Lilianna and Wynn and fed their bodies to the High Dragon >.>;;;;

It's not really a retcon. More that Bioware has chosen which bits to make official canon. It isn't really surprising that they did so as this is something which was bound to happen eventually.

She had Feign Death available even if you didn't really have it in your talent tree.

Yeah.  That's why. :?

It's difficult if not impossible to make a sequel that would account for every possible permutation of a choice and still be cohesive. So BioWare canonized a few lives. If it's for the sake of a good story, I accept this. But I can understand why others might be upset.

Pretty sure I got the head-chopping finisher on her once...

This is probably true.  I know nothing about game design, but I'm sure its tough to account for all those variables, both in the storyline and in the programming - as we see from some of the many glitches.

But there's a simple solution - give us fewer options.  I'm sure nobody would have been seriously upset if we didn't have the "kill Leliana" option.

Well the point is by giving us the choice to kill someone they make that persons future actions at player discretion.

If I cut Morrigans head off for ****ing at me and she turned up to do the ritual like nothing happened i'd call that a bug.

That this is done between games makes it merely an insult and another nail in the coffin of player choice.

Ah, yes "choice". We have dismissed such claims.

Well, considering that Anders is a completely different person in Dragon Age 2, I don't think anyone should be surprised. On top of that, in the Epilogue for my game it says that Anders left the Grey Wardens for a time, then returned a few years later and became a serious member of the order. If he joined up with Justice (who supposedly killed some darkspawn, then returned the body to the wife), that was never mentioned in the Epilogue. My guess is that as the series goes on there will be a lot of these things. Which is fine. But don't give us the choice to do these things if they want to keep certain characters "alive".

Don't be surprised if we see the same thing in Mass Effect 3. That said, I just want to play as my Warden in the next game.

Yeah, continuity has some issues. I still find Biowares excuse for why sten and the Qunari from origins look so different from the other Qunari rather questionable.
