Yeah, continuity has some issues. I still find Biowares excuse for why sten and the Qunari from origins look so different from the other Qunari rather questionable.

As long our Sten remains hornless, which our dear lead writer said he would, then I'm fine with their direction.

It's not impossible for both their situations.

Anders may have been killed, but apparently Justice merged with him to give him new life again. How that works I dunno, but it's not truly unexplainable.

Leliana was knocked out, or near death, but being in close proximity to the ashes saved her, even though most of the ashes were defiled.

Didnt that dwarf Ogrhen say there was no ashes just lyrium in the urn? Also it wasnt just leliana that whole Urn of Ashes was made canon if you read the Summarize option when you gonna import that whole choice to destroy the urn was removed you wont see it in the summarize of ur save file.

There are ashes in the urn.  Oghren's stone sense was tinglin' something fierce, though, and he said they were above an absolutely ginormous lyrium vein, though.

Lyrium is funny stuff, so it definitely could have been a factor in the ashes becoming miraculous in properties.
