I returned from the Deep Roads with a luxurious mansion and servants, but I didn't receive any gold.

Is this because I accepted Dougal's 50 sovereigns in Act 1?

Or does everyone simply become "wealthy" without receiving any real spendable gold from investing in the expedition?

yep, you need all the money to bribe the Viscount, your Mother did smuggle an Apostate into the city after all. ^_^

I went in with 62 sovs came out with 148, then I went in with 87 sovs and came out with 152 dont know what happened. First no sponser, second sponser. Accept deal I think he is paid from general proceeds not your wallet. took deal when had 92 sovs cause I knew it was a way to progress for the spendthrifts and wanted to buy nice things but game robbed me. This is with better drops and coin items on.

Maybe I'm missing something.

If you didn't accept the money from Dougal, do you actually receive spendable gold from investing in the expedition?

I'm not talking about loot that you find, but some kind of large sum of gold paid to you from Varric or Bertrand.

I think all the loot I found and sold after returning from the Deep Roads was only around 10 or 20 sovereigns. I did not receive any gold from Varric or Bertrand for investing in the expedition.

I went into the Deep Roads with about 10 Sovereigns (spent 30 on buying the Tome of Physical Technique in Act 1). When I returned, after selling all the loot and junk I had about 20 Sovereigns.

If you do not accept Dougal's investment, you must actually spend 50 gold out-of-pocket, which is then returned to you after completion of the Deep Roads.

So what is returned to you is just your investment of 50 gold without any profit or interest?

Seems like it is best to get Dougal's loan in that case.

The only real difference is that by accepting Dougal's loan, you activate the Dougal encounter after the beginning of Act 2. Otherwise, it's just a matter of perspective and personal preference or roleplaying choice.

So since accepting Dougals deal triggers another miniquest later on and lets you use 50 gold earlier there is no advantage in paying for yourself? Except RP reasons?

Im confused now.

Basically yeah Relvor, though buying more early on is less of an advantage. And the mini-quest where you murder the **** doesn't really net any vast amounts of XP so its very little of a shift. He exist, purely, to give a means to get to the expedition if you lacked the actual coin to do so.

Really isn't anything to buy early on that you'd be using to end game, why I feel its a bit pointless to factor that in. Ultimately though you get your 50g back once your done if you didn't take the deal so both end out the same way as far as your money is concerned.

I was thinking of certain tomes and potions which boost your stats. These will help as much early as they do later, unless i am mistaken. And since you apparently dont loose a single copper by not paying yourself it comes down to the question if you want to buy your statboosts in act 1 or act 2. Or even later.

LOL I'd rather stay in the slums of Lowtown and have some gold to help me pay for the knockback ring
