Anyone else start giggling when the giant golden transformer statues joined the fight? Or when Meredith Dragon Ball Z jumped what with the red glowies and pretty lights?
I mean, I know Varric is telling the legend, and I know he's embellishing the story to make it more interesting and so I took it as a joke. No disrespect.

I thought Statue of Liberty, myself (what can I say, I live in NY).
And yes, jumped the shark right there. Couldn't take it seriously after that.

What's a Bioware RPG without a big old epic battle at the end?

I don;t mind the epic battles.
It was the walking statues that lost me.
Yes, yes, I know the idol made them happen. Was still silly. That, and the little hovercraft things.

I always felt they should remove all those statues anyway. Now they have a good reason to do so!

I didn't mind the statues actually. They are tevinter origin so they could have their own magic in them which Meredith unleashed.

They never explained what the idol is. It is very possible it gave Meredith all those powers.
So many questions about that thing. What is it's purpose and why was it made? What was with the ruins it came from being different from typical dwarven thaigs? After her sword explodes and she turns into a statue, did she BECOME the idol?

That's what it looks like. On my second playthrough I tried to get a good look at the idol as Bartrand takes it very much resembles what Meredeith turns into at the end.Super_Cat wrote...

As for the statues they were a bit ridiculous, and well the entire lyrium idol possession was not the route I thought they would take the story, I was more hoping they'd follow up on the Chekov's Gun of the possessed templar Wilmod back in Act 1 as an explanation for Meredith's insanity. I wish it had just been a hard fight against Meredith instead of playing up DAII's most annoying combat mechanic of enemy reinforcements.

Lyrium Idol, somehow I feel that it involves Sandal.

Leaves so many unanswered questions...
What is it made of?
What magic did it hold?
Was Meredith usually pretty powerful?
Will the NEW idol (Meredith) damage templars?
How long did she have it?
Who did it belong to?
Who made it?
Why was it made?
Was the templar chick inspecting Meredith after she died hot?
Would Cullen have won if he went solo?
Did Varric embellish it?
Did Meredith know what it was?
Was Meredith actually trying to fight the hold of the idol?
Why can't I believe it's not butter?
Did the statues hold magic?
How did the statues hover?
Why did the statues look the way they did?
How many statues are there?
Is Nixon a crook?
Would the idol be used later?
Is Meredith now the idol?
Will the templars use the new idol if it is a new idol?
Who'd win in a fight, Hawke or Garrus Vakkarian?
SO MANY!

I actually waited on purpose for all the statues to be destroyed before going after Meredith in full force >_>
I didn't find Meredith going all super saiyan to be too silly, but it does leave a lot of room for story an explanation into what exactly that idol was. There was no real information about it at all, beyond the fact that it was way way way ancient. It's possible the idol had something to do with the original Magisters who 'invaded' the Golden City. What's more important, though, is the fact that it affected dwarves.
