I just beat Act 2 for the first time by defeating the Arishok in single combat after a 11th-hour return from Izzy.  Meredith bursts into the room after it's all set and done, sees what I did.  And before she declares me Champion... she gives me a most icy vicious glare.  Like I stole her thunder or something. 

I think it was because I just fouled up a power-grab gambit she was playing in the middle of the whole incident.  She didn't seem to be all off her rocker, beyond the "overly dogmatic" bent she had been described to have already.  I don't think that the lyrium idol really really altered her personality, it just amplified her extremism to madness levels.  I think she was power-hungry from the start,.  She didn't need a lyrium idol to drive her to commit the parts of the fault the Templars have in the whole mess, I think she was that way to begin with.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe she already has the idol at this point. I'm not saying she wasn't power-hungry to begin with, I just don't know if we can make that determination from this one scene if she was already being affected by it.
