Where do you find this thing? Been looking around Sundermount but no dice.
Follow primary quests and Merrill's quests.

Really wish they would finally do away from cheap means like this, rather make the boss fight be a puzzle or have some other effects on it. I mean Ancient Rock Wraith was atleast interesting compared to the kiting-fests you can do with all the dragons and Arishok.

You only get access to Merril's varterral quest after you've done the Blackpowder Courtesy.sethroskull79 wrote...
I've been avoiding the main quests in act 2 and doing side quests. The only quest I can do now is Blackpowder in act 2 so I guess I'll go on to that.

You can't stealth or anything from the recumbent position. Getting knocked down by that spider is 10x as deadly as finding yourself in the mouth of the high dragon.
How does that make sense?

Monstrous spider is ridiculous on normal, I would jsut not engage it on nm. Once that spider is after you, you're pretty much dead.

It doesn't. Even with knockback resistance and high fortitude the spider is still deadly. But then again, it also doesn't make sense for mobs to spawn out of thin air conveniently right next to your ranged characters, or having to fight 3+ bosses at once. Almost every single encounter can be cheesed and in certain cases the game somewhat encourages you to do so (especially on NM). Simply put, if it looks like an ambush and smells like an ambush, then its probably an ambush and in almost all cases, the enemy will have the positioning and numbers that give them a clear tactical advantage. Solution ? Don't fight where they want you to (assuming its possible to avoid it).

On nightmare, the only way I beat him was with the stair glitch. Varric was the only one left, he just rocked everyone else. I'm surprised he couldn't shooot poision like the small spiders.

Man I wish there was shapeshifting. Bear vs Monstrous Spider, that would be awesome.
