Having already played the game through once, i know that Bethany is very bitter about being forced to join the grey wardens in order to stave off her corruption.

My question is does she react better to the circle? I know which one i would choose (grey wardens FTW) but having her hate hawke on top of the incredibl viscious and disturbing way leandra dies, is not exactly happy fun times for all.

She seems to resent you less if she joins the circle from what I've seen.

That or you need to import a save where nathaniel comes and saves her.

Yes, Anders does need to be in the group as its his idea, he's the one who senses the Wardens, and Stroud owes him a favor.

Bethany says she finds the Circle 'tolderable' although by the end of the game she's happy to see the Circle go down. She certainly doesn't hate you for what happens.

Bethany is only bitter at first. But as time passes, she learns that this was the best option for her and she respects what the Wardens do. I was weeping when she joined me for the final battle.

Also Carver, as a Templar, writes you and says he's glad Beth never ended up in a place like the circle.

That combined with her change of heart when you meet her in Act III keeps me happy with the GW option.

Yeah. That's why, I think, in most of my games, I'm making Bethany and Carver Grey Wardens. After learning about the crap that both the Templars and the Circle go through, and the fact that it's not so much a Circle as it is a prison...well, neither fate sounds very good. The life of a warden isn't exactly that great either, but it gets them out of the city at least.

For Bethany, it protects her from the danger of being made tranquil, or abused at the hands of Templars - not all the Templars were evil in Kirkwall of course, but in general, the whole atmosphere of the Gallows wasn't very uplifting.

For Carver, it lets him get out of Hawke's shadow and make a difference. He also fought at Ostagar, so there's the whole aspect of getting some payback in as well. I wouldn't want him to have to get addicted to lyrium either.

But I think, in another city, those fates would be preferable to being a Grey Warden, since the life of a warden is always going to be cut short no matter what. But considering what Kirkwall is like, the injustices that go on, and the war that breaks out at the end...yeah, I'd say they're better off in the wardens for the time being.

I've played Bethany both ways to see the differences. Her dialogue at end game is fairly similar either way. It only differs (depending on how you play it) on the Circle side if you are hardline Templar supporter. She will not join you again unless you respond correctly after Orsino uses blood magic. Also, she makes a bigger appearance beforehand in the cinematics beside Orsino which doesn't occur if she went GW. Her line of dialogue about her being glad that you saved her though is exactly the same whether you do GW or Circle when she gets kidnapped earlier on.

It differs in Act II when you first meet her again for the first time though. GW, she seems extremely bitter and resentful. If she is with the Circle, she is much more forgiving and there doesn't seem to be any sort of implicit blame toward Hawke.

Basically, whether or not one or the other is the better choice subjectively, she seems happier overall going Circle. Also given the ultimate end fate, this is a better outcome. With GW, she would still be trapped in that life. With the circle, if she wanted, could be exactly where she was before given their rebellion.

After seeing the way that Stroud's so convinced that it would be better for Bethany or Carver to drop dead right there than become a GW and Anders has to convince him otherwise and the fact that you don't even get to find out if they survive the Joining I don't think I'll ever make Bethany or Carver GWs. I was also put off by hearing that Anders felt getting possessed and coming to live as an abomination in Kirkwall was preferable to remaining with the GWs and that they thought having a freaking pet made him 'too soft' and made him get rid of it. And that's even WITHOUT metagaming about how much being a Warden truly sucks.

I figure it's a better question to ask here than to start a new thread... how do I get Bethany back in my party in Act III? I thought it happened after you rescue her from Grace, but nothing happened... >.>

She still takes off back to the Circle after that. She's only available as a party member in the final fight of the game.

She goes back to your party after you're forced to pick a side at the end. If you side with the mages she's on your side no matter what but if you side with the templars then she's not if she's a circle mage.

Awww... I thought I could take her around on side quests and stuff. I was ready to say to Meredith "I'm taking my sister home, or so help me I will have your head right here and now."

I have to say i'm the opposite when it comes bethany the gws it a death sentence and i couldn't do that to my real sister. so i won't do it to my game sister. sides i like overall character you send her to the circle. I played as mage once and sent carver to gws and didn't mind so i thought it was good for him. but i won't play a mage again i just wanted to see f the story changed any.
