After completing the battle with the templars and mages quest before heading out to Wounded Coast I have a problem where one of my available characters will be blacked out from use.

First it was Aveline, replaying through the part fixed that but now Varric is blacked out in place.
Anyone know why this is? They're all on full friendship and just before the mission I could use any one of them.

It's intentional due to what happens during the quest.
