Just how good are CCC's? I thought discussion of the merits of these might be good because it would be extremely time consuming for one person to test out all of them. Sometimes I feel people are overemphasising the effects and importance of them. They are nice to have but the only one that seems a little over the top is Brittle/Annihilate. Some of them are difficult to execute, some of them unreliable.
I am only really guessing at the damage based largely on descriptions, sometimes the game executes damage differently than you would expect. Feel free to contribute or correct mistakes. All chances listed are for normals. These opinions are not looking at the base talents but rather the combined effect of finishing the combo.
Stagger
To cause stagger
Pommel Strike/Pommel Blow
Single target, available at lvl 3, 100% vs normal, 10s cooldown
Shield Bash/Pummel
Single target, available at lvl 6, 100% vs normal, 10s cooldown
Sunder
Available at lvl 4, 50% on crit hits, +10% crit chance. 2H tree so num of auto crit attacks is low, in contrast this ability would be very reliable on a rogue
Not reliable but you hit enough enemies it will still trigger reasonably frequently, you just don't have much control when. Does combine with Tornado for 100% chance of crit.
Tremor/After shock
AOE, available at evel 9, 40% vs normal, 15s cooldown
It does go up to 10m but even if you hit 10 targets with it, you only average out at 4 staggered. Goes best with AOE follow ups but seems quite unreliable for CCC.
Cleave/Claymore
15s buff, available at lvl 10, 40% chance per hit, 20s cooldown
I assume this combines with Sunder for two seperate chances. Because of the massive damage increase you get anyway a lot of smaller things will be dead or so low you don't want to waste another talent on. Probably better for bosses but for bosses a little unreliable and may mean utilising your finishing talent less regularly .
Devour/Voracious
Single target, available at lvl 12, 100% chance, 120s cooldown (add third upgrade and it becomes 100s cooldown)
Haven't tried this, very long cool down
To utilise a stagger...
Explosive strike/Merciless Strike
Single target, available at lvl 4, high damage
Does need to be charged to attain high damage. Best to charge up then Shield bash or Pommel strike, then unleash charge
Lacerate/Maim
Sustained Mode, available at lvl 9
Raises bleeding chance from 10% to 100% when enemy is staggered. Damage seems a little low but I have no experience with how well this works. Does the bleeding stack? If you have a lot of stagger effects could be worth trying because it is a sustained mode.
Vendetta/Blood Feud
1 Target, Available at lvl 16, High damage
Chain Lightning/Chain Reaction
Up to 5 targets, available at level 6, moderate damage
A little underwhelming if you only hit a single staggered enemy but still good if you were going to zap them all anyway. Probably better with a sundered tornado... assuming that hasn't already killed everything. Maybe goes well with tremor? Would be very good if the AOE stagger effects were better.
Crushing Prison/Paralysing Prison
1 Target, available at lvl 10, high damage plus staggered increases chance of paralysis from 40% to 100%
Fist of the Maker/Makers Hammer
10m AOE, available at lvl 13, High damage?
Looks pretty good with the AOE stagger effects, but same problem as Chain Lightning
Hemorrhage/ Paralysing Hamorrhage
10m AOE/available at lvl 15, Very high damage?, Nightmare friendly fire friendly?
Disorientate
To cause...
Pinning shot/Disorientating Shot
1 Target, lvl 8, 80% chance, 20s cooldown (can be 15 with 3rd upgrade)
Fatiguing Fog/Over powering fog
6m aoe, lvl 13, 100% chance, 20s cooldown
Very effective way of disorientating, the base effect seems a little underwhelming so very much a combo talent
Confusion/Chaos
4m aoe effect, lvl 9, 50% chance, 30s cooldown
In this case you may not even want to kill the enemies until the duration of the effect is wearing off, a little unreliable on a smallish aoe effect
Disorientating Criticals
lvl 9, 100% on every critical while obscured.
On a very specialist build (with ambush, shadow veil and sufficient stealth skills) this would trigger quite often with good control, probably useless outside such a build
To harm the disorientated...
Scatter/Disperse
aoe effect, lvl 10, moderate damage
Assault/Battery
1 target, lvl 9, moderate damage (as far as I am aware it is only the final hit that gets 400%?)
Devour/Insatiable
1 target, lvl 14, modest damage
Does also increase the healing, third upgrade also staggers so you can chain combos I guess but seems oddly weak by the numbers?
Stone Fist/Golems fist
1 target, lvl 6, moderate damage, the disorientated also suffer extra force
Spirit Strike/Spirit Bolt
1 target, lvl 6, modest damage
Walking Bomb/Corrosive Bomb/Virulent Bomb
1 target, lvl 10, modest dot damage from corrosive (you may even skip that), high damage from the explosion?
All in all these efects look a little underwhelming, nice to have when you have them anyway, but not something you should build a party around. Probably weaker than Stagger effects.
Brittle
To cause...
Winters Grasp/Winters Blast/(Elemental mastery)
1 Target, lvl 6, 40% chance (with EM lvl 10, 100% chance), 20s cooldown
Cone of Cold/Deep Freeze/(Elemetal mastery)
aoe effect, lvl 8, 12% chance (lvl10, 60% chance with EM)
Petrify/Dessicate
1 target, lvl 8, 100% chance
Does leave the enemy with 30% damage resistance but also locked out with quite a bit of time to finish it
To abuse the brittled...
Mighty Blow/Shattering Blow
small aoe effect, lvl 8, pretty good damage
Scythe/Reaper
aoe effect, lvl 9, moderate damage
Only cone of cold makes multiple enemies brittle
Cleave/Claymore
durational buff, lvl 10, no damage increase but 100% stun, but brittle creatures are probably already frozen/stoned. Confusing design???
Bursting arrow/Shattering arrow
aoe effect, lvl 9, modest damage
Archers Lance
straight line from target, lvl 11, high damage
Chances are if you do freeze a number of targets from CoC they are likely to be in a nice line
Assassinate/Annihilate
1 target, lvl 10, immense damage
The only "downside" is that the damage from Assassinate is so high already it will likely be overkill (especially with the overkill upgrade) without the enemy being brittle. But for bosses and elites it is a very nice combo
