It is for now anyways. Could be just because I played it recently.

Top five:
1) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
2) Mass Effect 2
3) Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
4) Planescape: Torment
5) Jade Empire
6) Deus Ex
I know you said five, but I had to include Deus Ex.
Note: Just a list of personal favorites, not how 'influential' each game was to the genre, otherwise it would look very different.

-Jade Empire
-Final Fantasy 5 (kefka! he's teh awesome)
DA2 is near the bottom. Decent game, not a good bioware RPG, too ME2-ish.

I never played Jade Empire...I want, though. Badly. I was still a Nintendo loyalist for consoles last console cycle...so I had a GameCube (Eternal Darkness is the most underrated game ever...a hidden gem by definition). My 360 has a hard drive...can 360 consoles play Jade Empire?
Yes they can. Much better than they can play Knights of the Old Republic, in my experience (Jade Empire's less buggy).
I'm actually surprised that it's appeared on multiple favorite RPG lists so far as it's less known/underrepresented compared to other Bioware games.

2)Deus Ex
3)Planescape Torment
4)Darklands
5)DA:O
In no particular order, they are all damn good. DA2 just didn't cut it for me. I just feel that RPG's are meant to have you explore a fantastical world (or worlds), and it was a bit hard to feel that immersed when I was stuck in one city or outside in reused environments.

I had nearly no problems with porting JE onto my 360.Il Divo wrote...

So yes I'm not finished with DA2, but as of now it is.
I also have DA:O in there, Mass Effect 2, Planescape Torment, and Fallout 3. Honorable mentions go to Baldur's Gate 2, Deus Ex, Fallout New Vegas, and KOTOR 2

Likewise. I'm still pushing my way through it, but especially with dialogue the game is alot more glitchy on 360 ports.

It's not because of the Junk bin, bugs (that can be fixed), combat is a bit tedious, it's a little too dark thematically overall. I like happy endings....If I want sadness I'll watch the news.

1. KOTOR (both, 1 first)
2. TES: Morrowind
3. Mass Effect (all hopefully) [Most likely will be bumped down by Skyrim in No vember]
4. TES: Oblivion
5. Jade Empire
Might be one I'm forgetting. DA: O is in top 10 though. Not DA2 but its still an decent RPG in and of itself.

Sh*t.. forgot about Xenogears. Loved that.
I still dont think ME2 is quite an RPG.. more of a cinematic story driven shooter with some RPG elements.

It's a very underrated game these days. I was actually talking with people at my GameStop durring the DA2 midnight release and three of us agreed that was our favorite RPG.
It's close enough for me.

This......dark and gritty is just over done. I really just dislike the entire story telling, and the depressing end. I couldn't put it better myself, if I want depression I'll watch the news. I don't need a cool gritty depressing game, I want to be the hero, and I don't want to pay 6.99 for the DLC to give me the ending.
