DA2

"I was told there would be no math"

I'm fairly close to that, but remove DA:O and replace with Final Fantasy 1-9+12.
Ditch phantasy star since I never played them and put in Ulitma 1-5+7.

I have to say I m a bit disapointed that Might and Magic is dead, Heroes of might and magic 6 or whatever is coming out but that isn't a rpg, and dark messiah while fun isn't what I am looking for.

Funny how little you see Ultima, Might and Magic, Dark Sun, Betrayal At Krondor or pretty much any older rpg in these lists...

Well one there is an entire gorup on these boards that are too young to have played them and two people remember what is shiny and new or at least kept in their memory through active products.

The Phantasy Star games were actually pretty good. I would say that 4 is worth a play through even today.

1.Dragon Age series
2.Mass Effect series
3.Elder Scrolls series
4.Baldurs Gate series
5.Knights of the Old republic

I can't really say that DA:O is better than DA2 and vice-versa.They are both good in their own ways.I like the series as whole a lot.Same goes for ME and TES. And this is coming from a guy that hated Oblivion ,and loved DA2.

Well IMHO this is NOT an RPG.
it's sort of an action adventure with rpg elements, or maybe, MAYBE an action-RPG - a bit like diablo is one.

my favorite RPG's:

1. Planescape: torment
2. Neverwinter Nights 2 ( mostly because of the Add-On: Mask of the Betrayer )
3. Baldur's Gate 2
4. Star wars: KOTOR 1&2 (if only they were not bugged to death)
5. Fallout (mostly 1 & 2 but 3 is nice too)

Oh and I love Mass Effect 2 it's just not an RPG it's more like an epic interactive movie with action-oriented fights.

I never played Jade Empire...I want to, though. Badly. I was still a Nintendo loyalist for consoles last console cycle...so I had a GameCube (Eternal Darkness is the most underrated game ever...a hidden gem by definition). My 360 has a hard drive...can 360 consoles play Jade Empire?

yes it does ! you can even buy teh game on the XBLA with points or a Credit card !

My actual top 5 :

5) Fallout : New Vegas
4) Dragon Age : Origins
3) The Elder's Scrolls III : Morrowind
2) Mass Effect (Both games)
1) The Legend of Zelda : The Entire f'kin saga <3 (Yep... I count it as an Action-Puzzle-RPG.)

Special Mention : Pokémon G1 to G5, for the great nostalgic value. consider it #0 on my top. :police:

I like the action direction that it's heading, it makes the game alot more fun. As long as the story and choice is in there, I don't really care.

Yeah. I agree. Sadly, DA2 doesn't meet the requirement you just set.

I love how almost everyone with Planescape: Torment in their top 5 doesn't put Dragon Age 2 in it as well.

Why no Phantasy Star 3 love? (on this last page) It was the very first RPG I ever played, at the tender age of *checks release date* 6! I do agree 4 was better though.

It does work perfectly fine on the 360. You can usually find a used copy for around $5.00

I would recommend the PC special edition though.

It has enhanced resolutions, more fighting styles and monsters etc.

You used to be able to buy it at the Bioware store but if you can't get it
there any more you can get it through Steam pretty easily.

There's actually some pretty interesting data in here. Generally speaking, casually inspection indicates there's a very high correlation on some interesting points. I'm half tempted to actually do a plot.

-If a person was to list ME2, Oblivion, or Fallout 3 as an RPG their list is likely limited to the PS2 era forward and contains primarily games that are disputed to be RPGs.

-If a person was to list Fallout 1 or 2, Planescape, or Baldur's Gate, their list is likely spanning at least SNES era forward.

Casually, I'd venture that there's a strong correlation between age of gamer and depth of RPG.In short. I'd also venture that the younger you are, the more likely you are to list games that do not fit the RPG framework and fall into other gameplay catagories.

Other interesting takeaways...

-FF7 doesn't seem to be showing strong correlation, which is unexpected for me, I strongly suspected that there'd be a strong correlation between Oblivion/ME2 and FF7.

-If you listed TES 1-3, you're unlikely to list Oblivion or Fallout 3.

-Surprisingly little representation of Icewind Dale, Diablo, Might & Magic, or the Goldbox Games.

I cant personally recall much from ID, I know I played it few times, enjoyed it, but there werent any strong NPC like in other games to remeber this game more strongly ... I cant never forget PS:T with Fall From Grace and Morte or NWN2:MotB with Kaelyn the Dove and Gann (thats how i remember most games ... ME is Tali for me, BG2 is Viconia/Imoen/Edwin/Irenicus, AP is Scarlett/Madison/Heck, Demons Souls is Maiden in Black ... etc.)

I see strong correlation between your personal biases and the observations you made.  ME2 and Oblivion/Fallout 3 are about as different from each other as night and day, yet you try and roll them up together in the "non-rpg" category.  Let me guess, you're a big fan of Morrowind?

Ultima series is so impossible for me, but it has virtues which I like therefore it is best RPG for computer. Only RPG or action RPG I have played through is Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, it is best RPG I have played. Maybe because it got feeling you were there in middle of adventure, it has first person view, combat was realistic and story was short enought to complete for me, about 10 hours gameplay time, anyway It took me couple of months to complete it. Though I haven't played it since, because one time was enough, I don't want to play linear games many times, because I remember everything even if I am not playing it anymore. It is very linear game, it isn't game where you can do what ever you want. I like also exploring games like Ultima series, Elder Scrolls series and Fallout series. Dragon Age series has also little bit of exploring. Legend of Zelda adventure games are not for me, they really aren't RPG they are more like adventure games, I am always stuck in some puzzle and it is really annoying and I give up. I like raw action RPG games, where you can play game battle your way trough whole game if you want, puzzle games remind me poor Game Master who don't want to let players pass through no matter what you do until you solve their puzzle, really annoying.

1. Ultima series
1. Dark Messiah of Might & Magic
2. Elder Scrolls series (Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion)
3. Fallout series (Fallout 1 & 2) I still haven't played Fallout 3
4. Dragon Age games
5. KOTOR 1
6. Deus Ex
7. Final Fantasy series
8. Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess

1. TES3 Morrowind
2. Fallout: New Vegas
3. Dragon Age Origins
4. TES4 Oblivion
5. Fable TLC

I feel that it lacked interaction with very many NPCs and that the area was very small, seriously 1 city, a coastland, and a mountain.

It's definitely the black sheep of the original series, but I don't think it's given nearly enough credit.  A lot of replay value for an early 90's console RPG!

Some of the Ultimas, early Fallouts and Elder Scroll games fill up my top five. DA2 doesn't do it for me since it's too actiony.
