Ultima V
Wastelands
Some of the SSI AD&D games (Champions of Krynn, Pool of radiance)
BG 1&2
Planescape: Torment
Fallout 1&2
DA:O
Games like System Shock 2 and ME1&2 mostly for story qualities and not so much for RPG qualities.
Playing DA:O made me realize I might have missed a decade of good RPGs so I'm playing Fallout 3 now and enjoying it tremendously :-)

I can only make a list depending on the joy they gave me, so there will be some 'shared' places.
Dragon Age: Origins / Knights of the Old Republic
Planescape: Torment / Fallout 2
Mass Effect
Fallout 1 / Jade Empire
NWN2 / KotOR2 (with the restoration mod applied, it was a pain to play the unfinished game where the point of it all was missing.)
And then comes ME2, DA2 and Alpha Protocol (the latter because of the nasty consequence and the developed approval system)

If this game is in your top 5 rpgs you've probably only played 5 rpgs anyway.

Planescape:Torment
Deus Ex
Vampire the Masquarade Bloodlines
Baldur's Gate 2
Witcher
DA2 is one of the most disappointing rpgs I have played along with FF13.

Final Fantasy V and IX
Dragon Quest IV and IX
Dark Cloud 2
Demon's Souls
these are just five I like, in no real order. . . DA2 is way too unpolished to make this list, at all.

In no particular order:
1. Jade Empire
2. Mass Effect 1
3. Mass Effect 2
4. Septerra Core (I am not sure anyone else remembers this game or even liked it, but I can't help but have too many fond memories of it.)
5. Fallout 1
I would say DA:O and DA2 fall into my top 10-15 though.

Funny how little you see Ultima, Might and Magic, Dark Sun, Betrayal At Krondor or pretty much any older rpg in these lists...
Well, for me BaK was the first so it's really in its own category. My husband and I played MM7 when we were first married so it's really "out of time" as well. I also have a hard time separating my enjoyment of BaK from the pleasure I took in Feist's novels.
I imagine that many are too young to have played those games, or if they have see them as cultural artifacts rather than as something they encountered when it was new.
So, since those early titles are "incomparable" my personal list is:
Morrowind
Oblivion
...
I loved the BGs, KotOR (except for the mini games), and the NWN expansions and enjoyed DA:O, too, so I owe Bioware gratitude for many hours of enjoyment.
I hope my list will look a little different this time next year. ;-)

Baldur's gate
DA:O
FF VII
Planescape: Torment
DA:2 is a good game but it just doesn't have the quality. I hate exploring the same places again and again each act. Not to mention cookie-cutter dungeons. I really hated going to character's homes separately too.

Diablo 2 LOD
Fallout 3-NV
Mass Effect series
DA:O
Two Worlds 2
DA:2
No real order

Vampire Bloodlines and Dragon Age Origins tied for first place
Planescape Torment
Baldur's Gate 2
Neverwinter Nights 2
Very difficult to decide though. There were some oldie but goodies too.
Hard for me to rate Pool of Radiance....it is so old and so long ago

The old games like Ultima/Mightmagic/wizardry/Dark Sun/krondor/bardstale and all the ones I am overlooking I remember fondly, but have not played them in so many years I had to choose more recent games.

1 Baldur's Gate
2 KOTOR
3 Mass Effect
4 DA:O
5 The Witcher
6 Morrowind
7 Oblivion
8 Mass Effect 2
9 FF 7 (and I love FF 8 I'll put them together)
10 Fallout New Vegas
11 Fallout 3
and then the NWN series. So its far down my list of best. And I enjoyed the game. I just didn't love it.
Edit: I forgot the The Witcher:D

I remember most of those games fondly, minus Dark Sun which I actually have never played.
I think my main reason for not adding any of them in my top 5 is because I usually also consider games I've played and replayed many times over and have yet to tire of.
Most of the Ultima games I played no more than once or twice, same with Might and Magic, though I still enjoyed them. But I also havent revisted them in a very long time. Betrayal at Krondor is a game I replayed more then twice to be sure, but again, its been awhile since my last go at, was probably around 1998 when the not as good sequel, Return to Krondor came out.

I could go into far too much detail as to why, but DA2 is proving to be a game somewhere between 'love to hate' and 'hate to love', with a lot of 'terrible disappointment and aggravation' thrown in. There's so many parts I think are fantastic, and parts I feel are improvements, and yet there are so very very many parts that are seriously terrible to me.
