2. Mass Effect 1
3. Dragon Age 2
4. Dragon Age: Origins
5. Breath Of Death VII (xbox arcade game, it's a parody of old RPG's.)

I feel like I'm going to get hate for this list.

nope, more likely you get pitied

Meh, I was never a fan of older RPG's. I like the action direction that it's heading, it makes the game alot more fun. As long as the story and choice is in there, I don't really care.

2) DA:O
3-x) a blur of Morrowind, Gothic I, Dues Ex, STALKER, Ultima 7&8&underworlds

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl is a fantastic game and its one of the very few games that I've replayed mutiple times. The atmoshpere and story ranks up there with the best in my opinion.

Having wrote all of that I never thought of it as an RPG. After thinking about it a bit I can see where one could lean that way though.

I think it is as much RPG as DA2 is RPG. If it just "streamlined" a little bit more it doesn't matter anything.

That said, NHL11 is more RPG than DA2. You play a predefined character but you have tons of skills and you can actually affect your career. You can also change your looks and earn better gear.

I know RPG noobs does not understand this.

There are plenty of RPG elements in some sports games.

Just for example Madden NFL games used to let you take a team through 10 seasons or more and manage everything from coaches and players, team uniforms, where you wanted your team (You could change cities) right down to how much you charged for parking and hotdogs.
You even handled advertising.

There was also a mode that let you create a player to be drafted and you guided him through his career for multiple seasons.  Heck, you could even import a created player from your college game into Madden and get him drafted into the NFL.

I haven't bought a Madden game in a couple of years so I don't know if they've changed and remove those things but, yeah, I know exactly what you mean.

I never read any previews or anything else about Stalker though. I bought for $1.99 during a Steam sale started playing it and that was it. Is it an RPG? I can see where some  would say so.

Man that sounds like a very good bargain. I should consider someday join on Steam and take advantage of special offers.

Oddly enough, I agree.  I have no idea about "NHL11" or whatever it was that started this vein, but I've played some sports games that arguably had more role playing  elements than DA2.

Nah. My RPG days go all the way back to the 80s, so have had more choices.

I can't believe EVE (mine for half your life) Online is on that...

I don't rank it a RPG, as much as a space-life simulator.

Life-simulation is, fundamentally, what I think RPGs should be.

Mass Effect 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga (first one), Dragon Age Origins,Dragon Age 2 and Persona 3 Portable. I don't know if I could put them in order, but Bioware's stuff definitely goes before the JRPGs.

So SIMS is an RPG?

I'm not sure there's enough to do in the Sims to make it a good RPG.

Back to mining, sorry...

I preferred trading.

I tried the pirating thing... until I was of course, pirated by my own corporation...

Sigh, no not really enjoyable.

Anytime I see a "4 months 2 weeks left" statement, is the time when I decide this game is TRYING To steal my life and I won't let it.

One could also argue that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a RPG.

One could. I wouldn't, but I understand that position.

So you want to type onto a 1 inch monitor and post of the forums with an avatar or you and pick up the phone, etc etc. Interesting perspective.

Oh, because my console choices were rather limited, I'd say honorable mentions go to Panzer Dragoon Azel/RPG and Vagrant Story. And of course the SNES-era Final Fantasy games.
