Are we ever getting one? More then a week to correct this is rediculous. A feature that was repeately promised pre-release being just gone, especaly an important acessessbility feature, seems especaly galling.

It was never promised. They only said you would be able to attack enemies in an auto-attack styl by opening your radial menu.

We won't ever have a standard 'press A' auto-attack. I know, I voiced the need for this many times over on the boards pre-game release. Of course the devs thought our console gamer thoughts had no merit.

If your are So lazy that you require a Auto Attack button. To play a game then you need to go back and play Pacman on Atari.
This game is great the way it is, it gets me more into the combat not having Auto attack.
I'm sure other will agree with that

So did I, and I was told that I would be getting it.

I'm patiently waiting for this too before I even start playing.

It was actually promised/confirmed, multiple times via actual dev-chats and video streams. And it's not about being lazy its about being able to quickly view the battle field with out pausing 'while' attacking. Yes you can do that while spamming A but you have to awkwardly use your left-hand thumb to control the right stick. It's very weird, and not as easy to deal with - and shouldn't be something we HAVE to deal with for something that's a base feature of the game.

Chris gave the reason it wasn't put in, basically amounts to a screw up with the printing using an older version then was intended. Said they where looking into getting it patched in, im assuming it'll be in with all the other fixes in the coming patch.

As for it being some kind of great injustice its not fixed with in a week, welcome to consoles man. They could have a patch done at this very moment (unlikely) and you'd still have to wait roughly 1 more week anyways just for it to go through Microsoft channels QA process before it goes up on live.

-edit-
Also feel like I should point out Bioware isn't in the habit of releasing patchs to add or fix 1 thing. When they do patchs they take in as much as they can and fix as much as possible (that 'requires' fixing to function right). Why you wouldn't just get a quick 'auto attack fix'.

It'll be a bigger patch, fixing a lot of major issues such as Merrills Act 3 quest being out of order and glitched. Amonst other near-game breaking issues.

Oh, by all  means post the links. If you're talking about the 'pull up the radial menu and select auto-attack' ability, then sure, but that was a pathetic idea, and not really auto-attack.

They never once said, after the GameInformer interviews that by pressing A your character would auto-attack. Pulling up the radial menu doesn't count, and it would of only allowed for you to auto-attack one individual, kill them, then you would have to once again pull up the radial menu for the next enemy. Pointless.

If this is the feature you're waiting for, by all means. Perhaps I missed something in the lead up month to release, but I doubt it. Chris and the other devs thought using the radial menu to attack was brilliant (actually they don't want you to auto-attack, they want you to prees A and something cool will happen).

I still have not found a way to activate auto attack from the radial menu as instructed by devs. Pull up menu... press "A" (xbox)... release radial menu... character auto attacks exactly once and stops as if i had pressed "A" once outside of menu. Anyone else successfully used this technique?

No. I think this is what the others would like patched, though it isn't much of an auto-attack.....considering

Ahh... (sigh)... thanks for the response. I think what is wanted here is the options menu toggle that would make "A" button =  auto attack. This radial menu technique was offered up by devs as a temporary fix until a patch was made. Small suprise it doesn't work either.

I find it incredibly ironic that one of the big things for DA2 is supposed to be "smoother, more streamlined" combat, yet we don't have the same A button auto-attack from DA:O which made it much easier to manage talents and view the battle without having to constantly pause.  In this game I have to pause way more than in DA:O not because it is more difficult or because I use talents more often (I actually find it easier than DA:O, on Normal at least, and use talents less often), but because it's difficult and frustrating to try to do things in real-time while simultaneously spamming the A button.  As a result the combat actually feels clunkier and less fluid than DA:O's.

Really hoping this is patched.

Since you seem to of missed it, here's Chirs' quote.

Chris Priestly wrote...

OK: Here is the story.

Auto-attack option for consoles was added in to the games late in the development cycle after the initial certification build was sent. The auto-attack functionality was sent to be added to the game for testing and approval. This was why staff said it was in game.

Due to an error during mastering, the auto-attack file was omitted during manufacture.

We apologize for this. It was meant to be in game, but it is not currently in the console versions. We are working on how best to distribute this to console users. When we have information, we will let everyone know.

And I can't quote you about lead saying auto-attack was in for consoles because its in one of the video streams. Go watch that if you want it, forget if its the 1st or 2nd one of last month. But he basically said he kept wavering between it being in and not and at the end decided to have it implemented. That wavering, and the subsequent screw up at printing, is why we don't have it currently.

All because he liked pressing A, which I understand. What I don't understand is his original base need to obmit a feature that a good chunk of people obviously wanted. People peech about peoples opinions and different view points and likes. It's why theres 4 difficulty settings, auto-attacks just another one of them things that should be a toggle.

btw for a feature that was "supposed" to be in the game, it is conspicuously missing from the instructions as well.

The instructions don't do much past give basic information on what stats do. Damn thing doesn't even show the radial menu, but that's in.
