I haven't seen this anywhere, but after my first playthough, I realized that there weren't a lot of chests that needed looted, which got me wondering if pumping up Cunning is worthwhile or not. Aside from adding to crit damage, does anyone add Cunning for picking locks and disarming traps? I haven't played a Rogue yet, but when I do I want to do an Archer Rogue, so should I do a 50/50 split between Dex and Cun or pump up Dex? I play on Normal, by the way. Thanks in advance for any tips.

You can buy a few items that increase lockpicking level by 1 (ie 10 cunning), IIRC i believe they stack, someone else may want to confirm that though.

so when you want to loot stack those items on.

Although you still need cunning to wear rogue gear, and it increases crit damage which is an essential part to rogue being a DPS monster!

Cunning of 31 combined with the lock picking bonus of any item that has the bonus will open any chest in the game. One of the pieces of the final champion set has the bonus on it as well.

Ah yes, forgot about needing it for armor. Thanks.

Actually, I have the Stonecatcher gloves and the Dagger that gives a lockpick bonus. Each item provides the equivalent of 10 cunning points, so with cunning of 20 you can open any lock in the game.

High cunning helps your defense score, but it doesn't protect against any enemy special attacks like Assassin backstabs, etc. Because of this, I have been putting a bit more points into constitution than I initially planned.

I was thinking of putting more points into CON for that reason, and not just for Hawke, but for Varric. I'll keep an eye out for gear that adds to lockpick/disarm.
