OK sorry if this is a repost but the lack of a search option in this forum SUCKS!

I just finished my first playthrough and sided with the mages the entire way and got the arcane defender, champion of kirkwall, and Epic achievements.

There were many conversations with NPCs where they talked about me becoming viscount and such but it never happened. I assume that was because of all the sidequests and such that I did that triggered the convos.

Now to become Viscount do I need to side with the templars the entire time? Or just in Act 3 where you must choose (for the last time) who you are siding with.

Thanks and again sorry for repost, I just want a concrete answer of what to do to become viscount

To become viscount you have to side with templars.

I was as neutral as I could be for the majority of the game then chose to side with the Templars and was made Viscount.

Only at the end of the game, when The chantry gets destroyed. You can side with the mages all you want prior to that as far as I know

I sided with he mages until the very end but when the Chantry got destroyed I sided with the Templars but I never became viscount. So I;m guessing you have to side with them the entire time.

Side with templars. You don't have to be a complete jerk about it either... just so you know. You *can* be reasonable about it. I was kind of afraid of siding with the templars because I feared I would have to do terrible things, but in the end I don't feel that I did.
