Anders: I blew up the Chantry - now FIGHT!
Hawke: How could you do this?!
Anders: I'm a terrorist, how could I not?
Hawke: I see. Oh! I found Sir Pounce a'Lot.
Anders: Get OUT! You did?!
Hawke: Yep.
Anders: Well, where is he?
Hawke: Oh, I left him in the Chantry.
Anders: ...

So the war is the grey wardens fault for taking it away! If Anders had his cat, none of this would have happened.
