The godammnit thing meaning the Chantry Boom thing, which made me yell godammnit and pretty much everyone else.
As I was romancing Anders, I did all his companion quests, and later on Hawke comments on if that is why she wanted the mother distracted.
So can you avoid this awfulness?
Does Anders only do the "goddamnit" thing if you help him with his companion quest? (Spoilers)

I don't think you can. He'll get it himself one way or another.

He'll always do it.

I'm pretty sure that is a central point in the story (the reason why Varric asks Cassandra if the chantry is out for revenge?). So no. He'll only be pissed at you if you reject.

I don't think you can change that, much like Leandra's death, and just about every other 'cutscene' death in the game.
They're there for you to go "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-" and then kill things.
Besides if the thing didn't go boom there wouldn't be an end to the game and Cassandra wouldn't have hurt Varric and potentially ended any chance of fatherhood would she? And then we wouldn't have DA 2.

There are no choices to be made in Dragon Age 2 - this is a story Bioware is telling you, not a roleplaying game you're interacting with.
