The Dwarves don't look any diffrent to me.
The Elves are 50/50. Some look great and some ar a but meh. Overall though I quite like the new design.
The new Darkspawn are awful if you ask me.
And the the Qunari are so damn bad-ass now! Love the new look.
Not sure if this is part of the real design change or just something I noticed from the small handfull of Dwarves you actually get to talk to up close, but their heads seem larger overall, their faces seem bigger, their foreheads seem more sunk into their skulls, and their chins and jawlines seem much longer and fuller. The larger chin can be harder to notice because of the beards, but with Varric you can see his chin is longer, wider and his jawline is very filled out.
I am fine with the "Navi look" but the fact that they look so small and frail is what I don't like. In Origins they looked like slender humans with odd shaped ears and slightly smaller than the adult human, now they look like taller ten year olds. They are so thin and frail looking that I can't take Fenris seriously. His swords look like they weigh more than him and I am suppose to believe he can swing them around effectively? I understand that Elves are supposed to the agile and dextrious race and not the strong ones, but this is just too far. The ears are an improvement now.
The Darkspawn are indeed awful. They went from intimidating Orcish monsters to funny looking things that flail when they run. Also, what is with the lack of Genlocks and Shrieks? I like how Anders mentions Ser Pounce-A-Lot scratching a Genlock's nose, and then to completely ignore the existance of Genlocks. Sure, the beginning could lack Genlocks due to them not being intimidating in the least, but once Varric's done exaggerating they could put them back in. And the Ogre's look completely stupid now. I've seen more intimidating creatures in children's cartoons from America.
Agreed. The Qunari are badass now. Before they were just tall people, now their appearance reflects their barbaric and violent nature.
