Yeah, but I also doubt that this DLC will have the extra stuff we got at the end of Sahdow Broker. That might be the reason for the extra 240 points.

Hmmm. I consider Lair of the Shadow Broker to be pretty lengthy even without taking the terminals and other extras into account. It had four distinct combat areas, two really great boss fights, and a car chase.

It seemed to include much, much more than any of the 560 priced DLC packs.

LotSB also had a lot more dialogue in it compaired to Overlord.

My question is what did everyone REALISTICALLY expect?

Realistically, I expected something of LotSB quality and length, but more combat heavy.  I expected that there would be one, maybe two things that would carry over to ME3, (like Liara being the new SB). I never expected Shepard to be captured by Batarians or for him/her to make any decisions that would greatly influence ME3.

I had hoped that the VS would pop up in Arrival, but it seems now Hackett will be representing the Alliance.  Unless BW is being generous w/ the price, and I find that unlikely, I don't expect Ash/Kaiden to make an appearance in this DLC.  Regardless, I still hope, given the ties to the Alliance, this will be a very personal story for Shepard.

Wouldn't it be a great surprise if no one expects the VS in there and then they appear?

Not expecting that but it would be nice to see the reactions.

It'd be a great surprise if we were given the option to toss the VS out of an airlock without protection from the void. I don't have time for people who question me or my authority.

Maybe they will just resurrect the one that you killed and turn them into a zombie.

I believe I read somewhere quite a while ago that companies like BioWare would prefer to release their content for free but other companies like Microsoft want their palms greased for allowing say, BioWare, to put their product on things like XboxLive, and that expense is then passed onto the consumer. There might be some inaccuracies there or it might be inaccurate in it's entirety, I'd quote the source but it was so long ago I wouldn't know where to start.

So take this as you will, or a grain of salt, either, or.

Correct, Microsoft have limits to how much free content a company can release on Xbox Live Marketplace per game.

Really? I didn't know that, pardon my ignorance but why is this? Shouldn't it be up to the game company to decide how much to charge for their DLC's?

In some ways but you also have to consider the cost for MS that goes into putting content on xbox live.  That storage space and bandwidth costs arent free. Thats why there will be a charge on xbox live, because eventhough Bioware developed it, MS is the one that has to maintain it.  Same with the PS3 version.  This was one of the beefs that Valve software had with Xbox live in regards to PC users getting free content vs having to pay on xbox live.

I can understand that but I would have thought all the membership and microsoft points that people buy would be sufficient to keep xbox live up and running, then again I dont fully appreciate the sheer size of xbox live and the amount of work and money it must cost to run.

Running and maintaining xbox live is a very expensive process and they cant just start giving away content that takes up gigabytes of space.  Bioware is not a charity they are a company with families to feed and money to make and you dont do that by giving away content.

560 ($7) points IMO is very generous considering that Bioware knows they could charge 800-1200 points and people would still buy it.

If you think 560 points is to much then consider 1200 points for Call of Duty mappacks.  You wanna talk about getting ripped off....

I have to say, LotSB was so awesome I'd have happily spent twice as much to get it and been satisfied. It's easily the best thing to come out of ME2.

... interesting - as it's so similar to some of the loyalty missions in the main game in a lot of respects.

Well, I personally thought the writing and characterisation was better than most of vanilla ME2 (certainly better than the main plot), it had some original and neat concepts, the car chase actually made Illium feel big, alive and real, it actually provided a more personal experience for Shepard (especially if you romanced Liara), it had better romance stuff than the vanilla ME2 romance stuff, the level designs felt more immersive and real, and the combat was actually interesting and fun, with a bit more variety both enemy and level-wise and changed things up a bit here and there.

The only things disappointing about LotSB was the SB himself being a completely unknown entity (i.e. the revelation was a tad hollow when it wasn't really anybody or anything that had ever been referenced before, and thus nothing fans could really guess at. That said, it was nice that things weren't overly connected either, which lately in the ME universe I feel they're becoming, especially with the recent TIM comics) and factors that were already issues in ME2 that simply weren't changed, and I can hardly blame the DLC for existing game issues (with the one exception being Liara not having a decent, proper helmet during the SB outer ship segment. BioWare should have learned by now with this, IMO).

Oh no don't get me wrong, I agree with you, Bioware are very generous and I never buy mappacks, they should be included with the game. My original question was why it was up to Microsoft and not the game companies to decide the prices of DLC to which you have answered already.

I dont think it IS up to MS what price they will charge other than they must charge a price.

^I believe MS charges companies a certain amount to put up content (or they get a certain percentage of each buy)... And EA sets the amount each DLC costs. So let's say MS gets $1 for every purchase, EA/BW gets $6 to keep their company running.

Purely speculation here, but..

Microsoft has a chart if you will, to dictate how much a DLC package of 'x' size will cost. Whether or not they decide to charge a company for adding it to their database I'm not sure [eg: Zaeed, Crash landing, other Cerberus goodies that were available and free upon release].

But I believe it works pretty much as above. BioWare want to put something onto xboxlive for us fans, Microsoft says "Hmm, ok, pay us this much and we'll put it on there" so BW does so, but what was originally 400 MS-points is now 560 MS-points, not quite sure how BW gleans profit from those that spend microsoft points to get their content but then I've got a lot of knowledge gaps when it comes to the world of game development.

The short and skinny: BW has a price they want to set their DLC [though they may be one of those rare companies that want to release extra content for free], Microsoft adds a 'fee' onto it which is then passed down the line to the consumer since.. well hey, BW doesn't have to pay for it's own content, they have it already. ;)

This isnt true.  The Call of Duty mappacks are proof of that.  They dont come anywhere close to 1 gig in size and yet they cost the ridiculous price of $15.  The short and skinny part is probably correct.  The company releases the DLC at a price they feel is fair and MS makes it happen, but they wont allow it to be released for free.  Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 both had free content on PC that cost money on the 360.

Hopefully I can kill Liara as well as the VS in this DLC so I can be the new Shadow Broker even if it has nothing to do with the rest of the DLC. Just saying ;)

Current speculation places it as the Virmire Survivor, other people feel it's the Doctor from the achievements. If it is Ash/Kaiden don't expect to see them till the end. VS fans will get their closure for this game if they're here but they almost certainly won't be squaddies. Unless content the length of LotSB is nonexistant in Arrival. Either way they'll moan about being ignored. Even if the entire DLC revolves around them they'll complain about something.

Oh ho, nice catch! That's the second reference to San Fransisco we've seen.. is there some sort of conference or gathering happening there that we should know about?

I'm not sure how I could possibly be more excited about this DLC but a trailer might help :)

You just know that this DLC (being a bridging DLC), is going to end on such a badasstastically immense cliffhanger that we will all fall into a heinous fanboy/girl coma until ME3 is released.

EDIT: That's my plan anyway. How is everyone else going to pass the time??
