So i've completed my first playthrough as a Rogue, very fun to play as a Rogue, action packed and gameplay was much smoother than DA1 (maybe only because i picked the Rogue class).

But anyhow, i tried to start my second gameplay lastnight, planning to go as a Bloodmage (since my Merrill in my first game was WAY overpowered with AoE and never run out of HP). But as i start my game, i quickly realized that i won't be able to use any armor at all if ever i decide to go as Bloodmage.... since ever single mage gear require Willpower!

So i just gave up on playing my second playthrough... and going to just sell the game, cos i don't want to play warrior, and i'm done with Rogue.... :P

I think Bioware need to release a patch to remove the stats restriction and just let the player equip whatever they want to their character... this will open up more variety into the game imo...

There is specific Blood Mage gear- one item for each available slot- that has no Willpower requirement and increases the health to mana conversion rate. Get a full set of that and you won't want to bother with any of the Willpower-restricted gear.

I'm doing my second playthrough currently with Hawke as a Force/Blood Mage, and it's pretty insane how your only restriction on bringing the thunder is cooldowns.  Fun stuff.

The blood mage specific gear I've found only really boosts blood magic. Seems like you might want to grab Champion's gear instead.

Nah, trust me. If you're using Blood Magic, the blood mage gear is better than anything you'll get elsewhere. You miss out on some nice bonuses, but it's a small price to pay for Infinity Mana.

I guess you also have to think about how you're wasting 20 points on getting to wear the gear, so you could add a big fat -20 con to the bonuses :)

Now that we're at it. I'm in act 2 and already have 2 rings and an amulet for blood magic. Does all the neophyte gear simply come from that one merchant? Did I miss out on some in act 1 perhaps?

the blood mage trinkets come from apparel and trinket in lowtown, and they sell randomly. Just go in lowtown, check, exit, go in lowtow, check, and so on.

I found everything except the robes on my first playthrough without even really looking for them, but that included doing every sidequest in the game and checking every store at the beginning of each act... so I'm not really one to accurately tell you if they're easy to miss. If you're a completionist, chances are you'll find them all.

I *think* you just need to keep checking the apparel vendor in lowtown. Seems to randomly generate whenever you enter the area. Same thing with the trinket vendor that sometimes sells blood magic rings.

That's not the point... if there is only ONE set of blood mage gear, that's just bad. So you play your entire play through with NOTHING but one set of gear... it is already stupid, that you collect all these gears that NO ONE but Hawk can wears them... then 80% of them are the gears that doesn't work with Hawk's class, and then 10% of them are junk, so really, all the items/gears you get in the game are 90% useless...

What AsaTJ said is true though, if you are going for Blood Mage, you only want to equip with stuff that will boost your 1HP -> +1MP gear... i did that with Merrill with staff + 2 rings (and a belt i think) and it was already super overpowered. She has more HP than my tank, and never run out of MP.

i originally thought blood mages sucked until i made merrill one... i still think having your main a mage sux on hard+... but merrill is my favorite companion, too bad she doesn't work well in every circumstance.

edit: 1 more thought, is it just me, or is stat restrictions on armors even worth it? i mean... in the end it just seems like one more thing that restricts customization

2 sets and every possibe staff and trinket random generated option. Late Act 1, after all the quests, go shopping.
Mage Adept gear will have an additional stat for a higher willpower req.
Channeled Staffs aslo start showing up with 2 bonuses + blood mage conversion.

Maybe this is just me, but I haven't even noticed the need to have "super high" stamina on my bloodmage.  With only 20 con and around 1 to 6 conversion rate, I barely notice an issue with HP.  Granted I cannot be taking a ton of hits, but if you are, then you are just wanting to play the game as an Origins Arcane Warrior.

The fights aren't even long enough to be in trouble most of the time.

At this point, my biggest complaint is that the Champion armor is horrible for blood mages.

*Tip* Aveline's bodyguard sustained will reduce your blood mage casting damage by 50%, incase you didn't know.

are bad advice for anyone looking to play a blood mage.

Those items are to be used sparingly in order to reach a safe blood : mana ratio for casting with mid to mid-high health.

Come Act 3 you can play a few tricks with Rune of Valiance and get away with only 24-25 willpower in order to use the higher requirement gear.

Anyone who thinks a robe with +1 blood conversion is better than the chantry robe with +25% to every damage type, +magic and +28% healing...... is bad at math.

Also, whoever said the blood mage gear doesn't have a Willpower requirement is wrong.  I checked today out of curiosity, and it does.
