Hello everyone,

Posted this in the General Discussion, but realised I could not ask for you to write about the fights since it's a no spoiler forum.

I'm sorry I did not bother looking up if there was a thread on the topic, but I am very curious to hear people's opinions on what fights they enjoyed and why (and what difficulty you played them on with what setup preferably).

I would like to share my experience and say that there was really only ONE battle in the entire game which I enjoyed (Nightmare, 2h warrior, ranged rogue, 2x mage). I don't know, but I don't remember being so disappointed in Origins. Maybe it's me getting older, or maybe it's something else - I can't say...
I beat Origins on Nightmare with mage and rogue, so I'm not saying Origins was harder per se, it's just that it was the only really unique fight in the game where I had to reload after wiping once.

The fight I am talking about is the Ancient Rock Wraith at the end of Act 1. The constant pillar hopping, managing small adds before he gets back up, unleashing DPS in the small windows you had felt really great. It was a fight where if you play flawlessly you can win without losing a single HP or wipe if your Anders gets run over, because on Nightmare he does hurt quite a bit.

Share your experiences! :)

For now it seems to be:
1: Ancient Rock Wraith
2: Arishok
3: High Dragon

Personally I would rank Dragon 2nd and Arishok just didn't do it for me :(

Vadim

the structure of your post makes it annoying to read.

Hi Clonedzero, you really think I formatted like that on purpose? Clearly it's a formatting bug or something.

oh i didnt mean it in like a mean way, i meant it in a "maybe you should fix that" way.
sorry didnt mean to offend.

but i really liked the arashock duel (dispite it being stupidly hard), the high dragon fight was alot more fun that DA:O's high dragon, the rock wraith was great. sadly though the two bosses at the end of the game werent really that hard or anything. they LOOKED hard if like you were watching me play, but it was super easy to do it.

i remember having a really tough time with the dragon mini-boss in the mine on that sidequest in act one. that was rough.

The Arishok duel was fine until he threw me up over a wall and fence. Then I couldn't get down to finish the battle. Heh.

Outside of that I did like the Rock Wraith battle. My brain wasn't processing fast enough on how it was working until I accidentally walked behind the pillars. XD

Naw. It was pretty funny to be honest. I was just lost for what to do after it happened. I ran back and forth but I couldn't get down from there.

Varric's Ogre Story. It all went downhill from there.

failing that, Orsano (so disgusting) and Meredith (*loved* the copper statues coming to life)

really? that was a streight kill **** fight. kill mages, kill adds, kill boss thats it.

my favorite was the crystal thingamajigg in the deep roads, that one actually had strategy.

Hah, Orsino was such a ridiculously easy fight, which made me dislike it. It's honestly doable without doing a single thing, because of all the help of companions outside of the party.

Meredith, to me, was the most absurdly childish fight in the game. I really liked the fact that the lyrium idol was the reason for what happened, but the comic book style lazerpistol jumping and revival of statues made me lol irl (in a bad way). + the fact it was, again, absurdly easy (played on Nightmare).

Another thing I noticed is, that the game actually got easier and easier the higher lvl I became. Nightmare was tough, for the wrong reasons in the beginning of the game (lack of threat gen, lack of CC, heals, no cross-class combos), but at the end you have an ABUDANCE of it all.

Everyone also writing Ancient Rock Wraith is making me happy in the pants! Only fight with some tactical play.

The Arishok duel was kind of dumb. He only did like 3 attacks and were easy to avoid.

The rock wraith and the high dragon were pretty much equally epic to me, playing on hard. I died a lot to the rock wraith so that kill was more satisfying to me overall.

Is there any way to make the Arishok fight more fun btw? It was kinda disappointing as i looked forward to fighting him the most.

The ogres are kind of fun. I'd like to fight a couple at a time like in DAO.

Dangerfoot, Pride Demons are quite similar to Ogres in the way they act on the battlefield and have lots of similar moves and there is a fight right before the final battle where you face two at the same time, but they're really not challenging.

Dissapointed in difficulty scaling :(

I really, really looked forward to the Arishok the most as well, Drowsy0106, after having seen him in the trailer and really liking Sten's dialogue in DA:O about Arishok (I still don't understand if there is only one Arishok, btw) and when you finally get to face him he's just a glorified lieutenant... sucked.

You just described every boss in the game.

Rock Wraith = adds, periodic charge-up -> explosion which can be LoS'd
High Dragon = adds, periodic ranged-attack mode, and a couple of PBAoEs

Arishok is probably Hawke's most impressive victory, honestly--especially since he did it solo.

The fights are all basically the same. Attack, attack, attack, occasionally use other ability, attack some more, wait for the predictable respawns of enemy waves, etc., etc.

You could virtually play all of these fights without even looking at the screen.

Totally boring combat.

Quanri invasion really pumped me up. I loved the cut scene when they first attack and Aveline is trying to protect my Hawke mage from using her spells. The whole way to the final fight with the Arishok was intense and I liked having the Grey Wardens involved for a bit of it.

The Boss at the end of the scroll quest was the most difficult for me at the time..maybe I wasn't buffed enough and did it too early.

The hardest is Xebencek or however its spelt, but its a pretty terrible fight seeing as the boss itself dies rather fast, it just summons huge amounts of absurdly high HP adds.

Most enjoyable is probably Hybris or the Rock Wraith. Both require a little thinking on higher difficulties. Most of the other fights are straighforward.
