*Hackett and Zaeed stare at each other*

*[Other squadmember] explodes violently from the sheer concentration of awesomeness*
Hackett: "'Bout guddamn time you got back from your little 'kiddy-crap' adventures of yours."
Zaeed: "At least I'm not chained to a guddamn desk all day doing paperwork."
Shepard: "Uh, guys? Not to interrupt or anything but the Reapers are pouring through and [Other squadmember] JUST F***ING EXPLODED!!!!!"
*Hackett and Zaeed stare at Shepard*
*Shepard explodes*
Zaeed: "Hmm. He's right though. There is that little Reaper problem thats been bugging us for a few years."
*Hackett pulls a grenade launcher out of hammerspace*
Hackett: "We should probably go take care of them then"
*A single tear is shed from Zaeed's eye before it spontaneously ignites and dissapears*
Zaeed: "'Bout guddamn time."

*The reapers were completely destroyed that day*
*Zaeed and Hackett were the only ones who survived*

I hope not, he's my favourite character in the game. ME2 was less for not having him in it.

But using the standard method of storytelling, which Mass Effect appears to be adhering to, he will die. The second act has to have some tradgedy and if Arrival is the last scene of Act 2 (ME2) then someone big will die. At first I thought it may have been Liara, but with the big reveal being Hackett I'd have to say its about 50/50 now.

Hackett: We're too late, Commander. The Reapers... they've arrived.

Shepard: Then we fight them here.

Hackett: No, Shepard. The Fifth Fleet will fight them here. You need to get out of here. Rally the rest of the galaxy. Live to fight another day, Commander.

Shepard: No, Sir! I will not leave!

Hackett: Someone needs to warn the rest of the galaxy, to tell them of what happened here. Give everybody else a fighting chance. Take your ship and get out of here. With your stealth systems you'll be able to slip by while we hold them off.

Shepard: I am not go-

Hackett: Commander Shepard, THAT IS A DIRECT ORDER! ...Tell the folks back home we died fighting. Fifth Fleet out.



Sad, yet epically fitting, methinks.

Great. I only recently fell in love with Mass Effect (PS3), and I can't wait for ME3. Glad that they're releasing this DLC, at this point I'll take all the Mass Effect I can get. I'm unfamiliar with the Hackett character, though. I presume he's only made an appearance in ME1 prior to Arrival?

I think you might have to get ME1 on PC.  admittedly gameplay isn't as good as it is in ME2.

He was a voice on the other end of the phone and never made a physical appearance, he gave missions and sometimes intel in ME1 but didn't appear in ME2.

Thanks for letting me know, Lee. And yeah, I've been strongly considering Mass Effect 1 on my PC. It's nothing special, but I'm sure I could run Mass Effect smoothly on my PC. It's definitely not something I want to miss out on and the only thing holding me back at the moment is a Steam installation/subscription. I have very little knowledge on PC gaming, so I'll probably get to it soon.

Oh crap he got f*cked up pretty good, hope that won't mean he's going to sacrifice himself. Most cases were a character like Hackett is injured they usually end up dead, that's what I've noticed anyway.

I had a feeling that the screenshot of a man in uniform had to be Hackett.  I really want an option to thank him for being just about the only person with real authority who understands that Shepard knows what he is doing, instead of jumping all over him for working for Cerberus.
