Actually it's very possible for them to decide a canon course of events...afterall they've already begun doing that with Mass Effect Retribution. That book is 100% none canon for anyone who picked Anderson as Counciler, it never happens, it only happens if Udina is Counciler.
To be fair, Retribution takes place after ME2 so technically we don't know what happened between humanity getting on the Council in 2183 and the events of the book in 2185. We were never told who Shepard chose to be on the Council in Retribution. /nitpick
Same here. I've always thought of it as happening sometime close to Jon Grissom's funeral.
I have no problem with Udina as the default councillor, I just wished that ME2 remembered that you did, in fact, have a neutral choice ("Let's leave that one up to the politicians"). Quite frankly, they overshot on the decisions a bit (quality is ALWAYS better than quantity, this is a universal truth that, quite frankly, needs to be beaten into some people Clockwork Orange style), and once they realized that SFT import stopped BEFORE you fight Husk-Saren, they should've just had Shepard automatically say "Let's leave that one up to the politicians" and leave save/abandon the council as your epic final choice.
Several fans on this website sent Emails to Drew asking him about this...he responded with the fact the book is written from the perspective that Udina was chosen originally...and the fact that if Anderson is chosen he is not the type of person to resign such a post. So sadly Anderson does not resign...he is placed into the secratary position in the book with Udina as Counsiler. Which also means anyone who picks Anderson means book does not happen for them because he will not resign his posistion as Counsiler.

From reading Andersons talk page on the Mass Efffect wiki I was under the impression that Karpyshyn had only said he didn't want to get in to the whole cannon issue and that the books "are what they are" whatever that means. In any case I don't think I can just dismiss Retribution as a "what if" story just because I picked Anderson.

So you discount the ALL of the events of the novel because of one thing? How charmingly anal-retentive.
More careful wordsmithing during the editing process could've saved them a lot of trouble. (Like on one page where Orinia is mistakenly called Oriana).

Right seeing as the trailer comes out on launch day I am not going to bother watching it. I am just gonna play the DLC, the trailer will probubly have tons of spoilers anyway and I will probubly enjoy it more by not watching it. I want my last Mass Effect 2 mission to be full of suprises! Who is with me!!!
Agreed.
However, I will watch the trailer after I beat the Arrival.

I'll watch it first, because I'll be downloading Arrival DLC for ages with my slow internet.

It's possible that this is Shepard's first major defeat. He fails his mission, but now everyone recognises the reaper threat.
I'd say getting sucked out into space and dieing was a defeat...
He may have come back, but he sure as heck didn't win that battle against the Collectors.

Well considering it's directly copied from the Cerberus Network.. I'm assuming yes. Maybe it's something the writers do in their lunch break?

Everything that they grab off of the actual Cerberus Network is marked "official", everything else (from Jan 25th until last Monday) is fan contributed.
You can read about it here:

It's actually a fan site that started out just copying the news from the in-game CDN, but by the time the CDN ended a roleplaying community had developed in the comments section and so they decided to continue it with fan-made news.

Oh, I did. However, there isn't any confirmation that that man is Hackett. It seems likely, as that face all but peronifies "old war dog" to me. But it isn't confirmed.

Well he is mentioned in the official announcement and he is wearing what looks like an Admiral's uniform so I think it is pretty safe to assume that is Admiral Hackett. I mean sure there is no "THIS IS ADMIRAL HACKETT" emblazoned across the image

Same. The temptation is there though. Hopfeully the trailer won't be too spoilerific...
...then again we all know how spoilerific Mass Effect trailers can be
