I originally posted this in the registered game owners forum and decided to add it here because many people who don't like DA 2 didn't even buy it so probably won't see/read my original post.

It seems that anytime someone criticises the changes to the Dragon Age series and states that Dragon Age Origins was the much better game they get ridiculed for wanting another Baldurs Gate.  Well, not everyone who loved the first game and hated the sequel is a backwards thinking dinosaur.  I personally don't mind evolution, in fact I love it when new technology allows games to develop and improve my gameplaying experience.  It's a necessity, otherwise we would all still be playing side-scrolling shooters, pong and pacman.  Gaming developers should always look to take their product forward and provide new and exciting experiences, otherwise they will be left behind and lose relevance altogether.

The problem is that while Dragon Age Origins was a bit of a throwback, it was nevertheless a unique game and an evolution of the old RPGs.  It was an RPG that was given the full 3D treatment with a 360 degree camera, unique animations, and contained the 'Origins' idea which was a new and interesting spin that I can't really compare to anything else that has come before.

Dragon Age 2 instead introduced things to the series that did not improve the experience.  The re-spawning enemies, multiple 'exploding' enemies in combat, reuse of the same environments, DLC being shoved down your throat, limited dialogue (how often do you get more than 3 possible responses?), inability to converse with party members at a campsite, lack of exploration, and lack of customisation wasn't exactly a welcome evolution.  (There are other things I'd like to mention, but it gets a little depressing thinking about them all because honestly I could go on all day)

Considering that the direct predecessor to Dragon Age 2 did not have these issues, people are obviously going to point to it as the better game and prefer that to the new game and say that they shouldn't have made these changes in the first place.  They aren't really looking for another Baldur's Gate, they are looking for a better gaming experience and evolution in the right places, something that Dragon Age 2 did not provide.
