 I romanced merrill throughout the game but at the ending varric stated that all companions left Hawke, except isabella. Shouldn't it have been merrill that stayed with Hawke? I am just wondering if this is a glitch or if this is normal. It's not a massive issue, really, but it was a bit odd to hear.

That's a glitch, it should have said Merrill

The same thing happened to me. My romance was Anders, but Isabela was the only one to stay with me.

I did shag Isabela before starting the Anders romance, but never took it past the 'this is just a one night fling' thing, aside from maxing her friendship.

I dunno if it was the one night stand or the max friendship or both that caused the bug. Did you do either?

I remember Luke Barrett saying in another forum that it's a misfired line of dialogue if you've ever hooked up with Isabela. The plotflag is unaffected though, and I think they're working on fixing it for the patch.

ah, okay, at least it's not just me - thanks for the responses
just so I get this clear (not too great with stuff like this ), the game does recognise that I romanced Merrill, and should any DLC in the future mention a romance, it will mention Merrill and not Isabela?

Yeah, I did exactly the same as you, so can't help narrow down what exactly causes the bug anymore than that, i'm afraid

If it's a misfired line of dialogue and the plot flag for merrill is still there, then the DLC should be uneffected.

Mine bugged out somehow when i romanced merril... He said Merril and Isabela... at the same time, sounded like "... Except for MerIsabelil..." Which i interpret as Hawke and Merril going along with Isabela on her ship

Yes, it should only say "except for..." if you did a complete romance with a follower. I understand there are some issues, but I'm not certain of the cause, and Tech Design is looking at it now. I don't have any more info than that, however.

Yes, it should only say "except for..." if you did a complete romance with a follower. I understand there are some issues, but I'm not certain of the cause, and Tech Design is looking at it now. I don't have any more info than that, however.

That could very well be a glitch. I took it to me "he was with him/her in spirit".

I got this too and was wondering, is it a bug?  Or was a joke by Varric like  "we all left, well except Anders because he was dead already."  

Can someone shed some light on this?

I have the same problem. I've romanced Merrill, and Anders and it said Isabella every time : (

on my second playthrough i started a romance with both isabella and merrill, but only completed it with merrill, the voice said isabella but the subtitles at the end said merrill. the sound also distorted a bit right before saying isabella the second time around, i didn't notice it the first playthrough, but it may have happened?

I got the same thing except I got the romance achievement for romancing the magical terrorist.

I slept with Isabela then romanced Merrill....Varric actually says both stayed w/ my Hawke (both sound files play, simultaneously overlapping)

That is pretty weird. I did the same thing, but it just said Isabela.

The issue is that all you people slept with Isabella so the game thinks you slept with Isabella. If anything, that's your fault for sleeping with the dirty pirate

I romanced Isabela in the first part of the game, then i romanced Merrill but at the end the subtitle said that Merrill stayed with me and Varric said both Isabela and Merrill at the same time )
