I had previously played and romanced Anders, I killed him and he remained at my side anyway.

I accidentally triggered the romance with Merril, I used the "this was a fling" option because I was involved with Fenris.. at the end both of their names were said at the same time.

I started the romance with Merril then got out of it and at the end it says she is by my side.
My current playthrough's ending is gonna be good, I think I've picked at least one flirt line with 3 different LIs (without really pursuing any of them)...

I slept with Isabela then romanced Merrill....Varric actually says both stayed w/ my Hawke (both sound files play, simultaneously overlapping)
This happened to me too. I hope the next patch will fix that.

Well, I romanced Isabela in all the game (well, I slept with Merril as well but didn't get her moving into the mansion), and I even obtained Isabela's kiss before last battle, saying she didn't want to lose me, etc. Anyway, at the Varric stroytelling at the end, the just says "and everyone left the Champion for different circumstances", but never had the mention of "except for Isabela", WTF???. So at this point I'm not sure if the game took for good my relationship with Isabela and will not count for the next DLC or game, or what will happen?
You know in times past resurrecting things meant to be dead would have you branded a witch and you would be killed.... Just sayin' =D

I did this same thing. In version 1.00 it said Isabela stayed with me but my game locked up before the credits started twice. I patched the game to 1.02 and now it says they all left me even though Isabela asked if I would sail away on her ship with her and I accepted and she gave my character a kiss before the final battle. At least on a good note, my game didn't lockup before the credits and I was able to save the game after the final battle.
Also... I just looked and I do have the Romantic achievement saying I completed a romance with a character. Strange...

Also on the dragon age wiki it says that when Isabela comes back with the book for the Qunari and if she was romanced she is suppose to say "I didn't do it for them. I did it for you. It was always about you." I don't remember that happening either but as i said i did get the Romantic achievement.
So whatever we did, it causes a bug where Varric doesn't mention Isabela. I heard that people that didn't romance Isabela got that line of dialogue at the end, it's funny that people who did romance her don't get the line.

Yeah i have the same problem. At the end of the game Varric said everyone left Hawke even though i romanced Isabela. I did the same thing as all of you too, i was with Merril but then i called it off, but i stayed with Isabela for the rest of the game. We kissed before the final battle and i got the achievement but Varric still said everyone left. Im hoping for next game and for dlc it will register the romance.

The bug is actually that you got the final kiss with Isabela... your romance was supposed to have ended when you had the fling with Merrill. There's some oddness with the romance status flags in the game that sets you into a weird hybrid state where the conversations with Isabela herself think that you're still romancing her (and sets the achievement), but the rest of the game thinks you aren't (which is why she'll completely ignore Hawke and go off to romp with Zevran during that quest).

On my next game I was planning to be with Fenris and Anders, I guess I shouldn't then haha. I don't want another messed up romance.

Ugh, thats not good. I read you could get with everyone and it wont mess up the romance unless you tell them to move into your house. I didn't see Zevran in my game so I didn't know about that. But yeah, there were a lot of strange things going on in the game, there was talk between companions that me and Merril were together still even though it ended and I was wondering why.

As strange as it sounds, romancing Isabela or Fenris effectively requires monogamy. Merrill or Anders are juggernauts that smash anyone in their path, and they don't really care who Hawke's been with. If you try to be with Fenris and Anders, you'll end up with Anders. There's some interesting dialogue that comes up from this though.
There's definitely some pretty weird bugs that crop up due to the juggernaut smash nature of Merrill and Anders. It's a lot less transparent than DA:O, since there aren't any 'break up' talks anymore, so everything occurs behind the curtain.

Haha, I tried to imagine a scene in my mind that would explain why Isabela left my Hawke, to you know, have it make sense if the romance didn't continue in the next game or dlc. But that's not what I really wanted and it ruins my whole story. I wanted Merril to be happy and thats why i was close to her.
I'm just going to have to play through again really really fast and just pretend i was with Merril, instead of changing my whole story to fit a glitch or bug or whatever it would be called, a tick? Because its going to drain my life away and the clock will follow with a tock, its not going to stop for me. Idk that's all i can think of haha, if only I was funny like my Hawke. Wish me luck!

She did come back and say that line in my playthrough. Could still be a bug though. Oh well, not much I can do about it now other than reload from a save before the confusion happened. Maybe someday... but I am playing through with another character for now.

I did not romance Anders at all tho I ended the game maxed out friendly with him.
I got the "romance" achievement for Isabela near the end of the game, before the final battles.
However, in the cut scene at the end Varric didn't say I was with Isabella, instead the seeker said "The Champion is gone, so is the warden" and the peon said, "That's no coincidence."
Buggy.

It is buggy, but not quite in the way you think. Sleeping with Merrill is supposed to end your romance with Isabela. The bug is that it can sort-of continue. Merrill and Anders are romantic juggernauts, they destroy everything in their path. This was written to be intended behavior, but the bug lets you continue the romance... kind of. People who this happens to end up in a weird hybrid state where Isabela thinks she's still in a romance for her own conversations, but not for outside conversations (e.g. rescue her from kidnappers, Zevran cameo, etc.).

Anders, a zombie? How could you tell the difference?
Still,
it would explain how he managed to 'survive' from Awakenings, his
possession by Justice, and especially all his damn moaning all the time.
Yes,
I think from now on, I will replace Anders with a horrific shambling
corpse in my head as I play through the game. That way, the visceral
gut-wrenching revulsion I have for him is readily explained regardless
of my Hawke origen.
My only regret is that every time I meet him prior to the 3rd Act, I cannot use the murder knife in conversation.

I think it would have been better if the game explained it more though. Like maybe have a scene where Isabela or Fenris tells you it is over because you slept with Merril or Anders. Or at least some kind of logical reason, because how would they know who hawke slept with? And I guess why would they care?
I agree, it would have been nice to be told. I always assumed that the companions talk amongst themselves, especially in light of how often we see them chatting with each other. I can see Fenris being tight-lipped but less emotionally guarded ("there are no puppy eyes"), while Isabela would have no problems bragging about being with Hawke.
As to why they would care? They like each other, and knowing the latest gossip is interesting. I'm friends with or at least know most of my friends' significant others.

Idk, forget all of that because it may not have made sense, but hawke can still sleep with people at the blooming rose and I don't think whoever you are with cares.
