The way i see it there all lack character ( compared to other Bioware Games) it feels so easy to romance them its not as fun as it used to be
That'd be due to the simplification of the romance dialogue. You only have one option, so it's linear. I keep hearing about two versions (friendship and rival) but haven't experienced a rival yet. Either way, it's extremely easy since all you have to do is select the one option you have. Come on Bioware... Even Cod fanboys can manage dialogue....

See that's where you messed up. I underwent a little.. enchantment... before she came over. I'm all clear.

There's more going on with the two characters that you mentioned than you have bothered to find out. Go play the game and then repost with your updated findings.
Protip: Pay close attention to the fact that the characters are the way they are for a reason, which you might have figured out if you didn't mash your escape key during every cutscene.

If Isabela is in your party than it will be Seneshal Bran who is talking with Anders about his "problem".Princess Katrina wrote...

An incredibly loose pirate with implied STDs and an irritating "cute" elf who looks and acts like she's 10 years old. Straight guys really got screwed over this time IMO. Nice work Bioware. Better luck next time. <_<
Assuming your analysis is right in the first place, only straight guys got screwed over? What about lesbians? We do actually play games like this too, y'know.
I don't recall anything indicating that Isabella has STDs. Honestly, I don't even recall implication that she does, though I'd wager any such implication was not meant as actually being the case. Isabella has very exacting standards, though she does make it seem like she'll sleep with anyone and anything.
And, frankly, she's essentially a female Zevran with Duelist instead of Assassin.
As for Merrill, yes, she does seem very innocent and naive, which are traits we associate with children, but are hardly limited to children. As for looking like a 10-year-old, hardly. She's short and petite, sure. She's an elf. The only game I've seen not depict elves as such is Final Fantasy XI. But seriously, if liking short and petite girls is pedophilia, then I guess asian girls are never legal? Riiiiight.
You're welcome to your opinion, certainly, but you're taking it a step too far in saying "[People who exclusively like women] got screwed."
When you walk into Anders home base.
Anders: don't keep coming back to me with these diseases
Isabella: isn't that what magic is for?
Hawke: I don't want to know
Odd, I had Anders and Isabella in my party most of the time and went to Anders' place on numerous occasions and never saw that conversation.
Still, she has a point.Seems perfectly safe to me.
And, frankly, my char's about as sexually open as Isabella is. She just only sleeps with women, which there are sadly far fewer oppurtunities (why that male elf and not Idunna? *sigh*) to do.

If you'd like, I could remove every single positive trait of every character in any Bioware game and leave them with nothing but a simplistic insult.
Won't do Baldur's Gate 2 as I haven't done much of the romances there, ignoring KOTOR and Jade Empire too because I'd have recent memory than focus on insults from ages ago that I might have wrong.
Taking most complaints about characters and putting them all in one and removing all positive traits usually leave us with something like this.Ashley is nothing but a xenophobe soldier!
Kaidan is boring and has Carth's voice actor!
Liara is nothing but a horny virgin with mommy issues!
Tali is nothing but a shy clingy girl with daddy issues!
Jack is a crazy [lady] that wants to kill everybody!
Miranda is nothing but fan service!
Jacob's nothing but a boring freak that works out all the time!
Thane is dying!
Garrus is a fugly turian!
Leliana is a crazy religious zealot!
Morrigan is a crazy evil witch [offensive term] that has no clothing!
Zevran is a [offensive term for homosexuals and/or promiscuous people]!
Alistair is some whiny virgin that doesn't know how to please a woman!
I think that's everybody.
Have you ever thought of starting a new religion? :innocent:

If however, you choose to have her in your party, and you befriend her and such, then the game begins to challenge that initial first impression of Isabela and the assumptions that you make about her and the Anders dialogue can be completely different. Also people talk about Isabela being 'easy' remember that she only lies with Hawke in the second act, like most of the other LIs, this being after 3 years of knowing Hawke - I would hardly call her out for being 'easy' on that evidence, but she does have concerns and fears over commitment, for which it is all to easy to describe as her being 'sexually predatory'.
Isabela hides a lot of emotion through using a false bravado and humour, which you can sometimes see through during her chats with Merrill and how both her and Aveline end up being extremely good friends. In the end she learns to trust Hawke, perhaps more than she's ever trust anyone, particularly after what happened when she was married.
It's the same with Merrill, if you think her to be a whiny naive child, then the game allows you to go on believing that. But in the end, although Merrill's choices about blood magic, etc seem to be skewed certainly, the girl is essentially shunned by her own, even when she is the keeper's First, which should at least command some kind of respect (which she doesn't receive, which might explain some of her confusion over her clan, and her desire to leave with Hawke), and has to make her way in a world that is alien to her. Many things including relationships (on many levels), are strange and new to her, and at the base of it, she is simply inquisitive about things but that's tempered by her inexperience and naivety, for which Isabela and Aveline form excellent character foils.
Basically, if you believe that Isabela and Merrill are one-dimensional then that's because you're making them so, and if you don't want to take those characters on board and see if your opines and assumptions are challenged then that's up to you.
On a personal note, I don't really like Sebastian....and as I'm on my second play through, Anders..... Fenris might grow on me, but his VA is a bit jarring for me at the moment..... But by the same token, I'm not going to moan and groan about them...each to their own as they say.

I think the problem boils down to, the fact that Bioware are extremely clever in their story telling, and the character development; if you believe Isabela to truly be of low moral fibre without any cure, either moral or administered by salve, then the game, through your party choices, etc will do nothing to change that opinion, in fact with the Anders 'I got an itch' scenario (amongst others), it will reinforce that opinion.

Really well said. And true, based on my experiences.
On my first playthrough I took the time to get to know Isabela and it really changed my perceptions of her. Because she was in my party, the 'itch' scenario didn't happen to her. It happened to Bran instead. And there were many other smaller bits that deepened her character.
Meanwhile, Merril I dismissed for the above reasons and the game did nothing to change my mind. On my second playthrough I gave her more of a chance and was surprised. Still not quite my tastes, but I can see why people like her now.
Sebastian does have his moments if you get to know him. And more of a sense of humor than I'd give him credit for. But I didn't use him nearly as much as I could have because my party was already rogue-heavy with myself, Isabela and Varric in near permanently. He wasn't a good choice for my usual quasi-legal endeavors. But he added quite a bit when dealing with the Chantry and especially the Grand Cleric. It might be awhile before I get to his romance though. (If you thought Merril was Platonic...)

Merrill is the most platonic romance I've ever seen in a game rpg. I'll go for comfort in the arms of Isabela.
While physically the most appealing her personality and behavior is extremely unnatractive. My Hawke is celibate because he doesn't want to catch Isabella's "rash". Merril is too much of the generic "cute" character whose child like naiveity people are supposed to find oh so "adorable". I found her to be quite "meh" overall on personality. She also looks 12 so not physically appealing at all.

Y'know, I find this comment funny. First off, she doesn't look like a human child, and she looks fully grown for an elf. She's simply petite.
Second, I've known 12-year-old girls who had a more 'adult' appearance than and were more physically developed than Isabella. And I've known 25- to 35-year-old women who were physically petite and looked less developed than the average 12-year-old girl. In fact, I know this one chinese-american (full-blooded chinese, just born/raised in the US) girl who's barely 5'4" and weighs under 100lbs, and barely qualifies for an A-cup. She's about 25-years-old.
Now, I've got no problem with you not being attracted to petite girls. Ain't a thing wrong with that. However, you really can't sum it up properly in "She also looks 12." You really ought to just say something like "She's far too petite for my tastes."

1- Isabela's "attitude" is a way to mask her kindness. Her unexpected friendship w/ Merrill is sweet.
2- Merrill, childish? Maybe in some dialogues but 1-she's definitely not a virgin 2-as a fighting mage she kicks ass! She can get most destructive magic combos! Also, her personal history &quests reveals how complex she can be.
So please, WATCH THE CUTSCENES before judging & tell such BS + play them at high lvl
I didnt like Anders (useless, Merrill is much better) and his rants. Fenris torments are annoying but he's so badass in combat. Aveline is ROBOCOP

You can reduce every character to a basic insult/stereotype if you wish, but it will not do them justice.
Plus you're just sad that you can't romance Oghren. You know you want to.
