isabella and Merril (worst romance characters ever)

We've seen the whole nerd bait before with Aerie, Liara, and Tali, so Merrill really is mostly just a retread. This time with a Welsh accent.
And I'm disappointed with the Flanderization of Isabela. She seemed more mysterious and mature in DA:O, sexually free but not a nympho. Now she's just a walking punchline, wearing no pants, and coming on to everyone in sight. I'm surprised she didn't try to deflower poor Bethany. She's a fun character, mind, in a boozy way. A drinking pal for Hawke, or a sordid tryst.

I realize that I'm a troll and all, but I'm trying to figure this out. At what time does it actually imply that Isabella has STDs or is even a wh***? I know women in rl who like to flirt alot and joke about sex, but they're not jumping into bed with untold numbers of men just because of that. Also what you feeding your children to make them look like Merril? I don't have kids of my own, and elementary school was longer ago than I'd like to admit, so my memory may be a bit hazy. But I'm pretty sure I'd remember any schoolmates that were sporting C-cups and had figures that a cover model would kill for.
Fixed that for you

I liked Merrill, but a part of me feels that she doesn't replace Tali or Liara for me quite yet.

I liked Merrill. She was so naive it made her cute but I didn't like her dabbling with demons.

Ah, I see.Haven't seen that banter yet, only Isabela finding out that Beth is a virgin. IIRC she wanted Hawke to send his sister to the brothel, and she (Isa) would cover the cost or something. classy as always.
Pretty sure that's the only one. She tells Hawke to send Bethany to the Rose but she never flirts with her herself.

It has nothing to do with the romance if you can call it that. It has to do with Isabela's behavior.MisterJB wrote...
What exactly is so wrong about Isabela and Fenris having sex? They are both consensual adults.
I remember people demanding for Bioware to put romances between party member and when it actually happens, people complain.
Her dialogue with Bethany needed a renegade interrupt.
At least Zevran was entertaining.Turnip Root wrote...
I liked listening to Isabella hit on all of my companions both male and female. She's basically a female Zevran.

Ok, so you're bothered by the fact that Isabela has had many sexual partners. That is your opinion. As you have seen, many of us don't care or are capable of looking past that and see the other traits of her character.Marionetten wrote...

Bethany is always the one who approaches the subject. Clearly it is relevant to her interests.
And wether Isabela is entertaining or not, again, that's up to one's personal preferences.

Merrill is a very nice person who just happens to be into the ol' blood magic. A person who is strong, but can't achieve her ambitions without help. She's willing to resort to such a dangerous adn forbidden art. Honestly, I just like her as a person.
Isabella was surprising for me. Her character is surprisingly deep. I expected exacxtly what you described her as, but when you listen to her speak seriously, about her beliefs, her history, her view on the world (these can be found in dialogue with her and party banter), she's really one of the most independent, reasonable, and smartest characters out of the companions.

You'd be too late. BioWare already did that with how they wrote Isabela. She's nothing but the one dimensional tramp everyone feared she'd be. I can't even stomach having her in my party as every single word out of her mouth is laced with sexual innuendo.
I like to pretend they wrote her like that because she's actually emotionally scarred and hides behind a giant, STD-ridden wall of pointed pirate-lady ****tiness, but due to budget constraints they had to cut the part where she faces down her traumatic experience and comes out of it mentally and emotionally matured - still pointed, but not constantly forcing double entrendes.
I suspect the reality of it is a lot more depressing, though.

I should also point out you only get the bit with Anders curing her if you don't have her in your party. If she is, its another scene entirely where she gets offended by the implication.
Merril's not really to my tastes romantically, But I do like her in the 'underfed puppy I take out for walks' sort of way.

It has nothing to do with being male or female and you thinking that says far more about you than it does about me. Zevran was a tramp. He just had other things going for him and didn't have to lace every single comment coming out of his mouth with sexual innuendo. Isabela doesn't. She's completely over the top about it. It's as if they extracted all the lewd from Zevran and created a character from that. She's utterly one dimensional.
Feel free to link us to these supposedly hilarious banters. Preferably one not involving ships and rudders...Cutlass Jack wrote...
Isabela was much funnier than Zevran and that's saying quite a bit.
I brought her with me hoping that she would have some redeeming qualities. I discovered none.

Taste; I really like Isabela; I often find her to be too much, and annoying, but I do like her still ~
& one reason is probably that I prefer characters that aren't prefect, I want flawed chipped characters, it was the reason I liked Leliana (I'm veehemently non-relgious in real life) and Morrigan, and its the reason I like most of the characters in DA2; they are all flawed in many ways, but in real ways (Aveline having love troubles and so on).
OR people who are perfect, that act as they should and so on I never care for in RL, nor in games ~ or I do like them at first, but I grow bored of them quickly.

Actually what I said seems to be right on the money, you're perfectly fine with Zevran the manwh***, but you're so focused on Isabella's naughty side that you completely refuse to even acknowledge that there is more too her than just that. So no, this definitely speaks volumes about you, and not me.

Comedy is subjective, though many people loved her banter. Sex or no. Varric's banter with her for example.
I brought her with me hoping that she would have some redeeming qualities. I discovered none.
I take it all the times she helps people against her own judgement, including the one gigantic plot surrounding her in act 2, weren't redeeming at all. She went to the Arishok and was like "Sex is awesome." and then flashed him in your playthrough, I take it?

It is subjective. It's just that most of Isabela's humor relates to sexual innuendo whereas Zevran's greatest performance contained none of it. I'm sure she's a killer if you're into that kind of humor. I'm not. At least not to that extent.HawXV2 wrote...

You're the one who insists on separating the genders and felt the need to devolve the debate into this. Not me and I'd rather not be involved in such lowbrow discourse. It's just going to lead to having the thread locked.Conduit0 wrote...

I view and judge them as individuals. I linked to that clip in particular as it contained no sexual innuendo.
