Opinion of course, but I kept hoping the "red fist" option with Isabella would actually punch her. I've never seen a character more aptly described by the phrase "filthy pirate hooker". Merrill needed a good shake, failing that an exorcism not to long down the road. Both pretty sad choices, especially compared to the two lovley ladies in origins :)

I really liked Merrill. Personality wise she is liked Tali but unlike Tali she has a very dark side to her which makes her not quite that innocent. Playing as a good character it's hard to reconcile her generally good natured personality with her extremist beliefs.

Well I disagree.

Besides Hawke is immune to STDs.

I take it all the times she helps people against her own judgement, including the one gigantic plot surrounding her in act 2, weren't redeeming at all. She went to the Arishok and was like "Sex is awesome." and then flashed him in your playthrough, I take it?

Nice try, but I woudn't bother. Some people on this forum have enough opinions set in stone to build a goddamn mansion in Hightower...

Subjective. I found Isabella to be far more entertaining.

It is subjective. It's just that most if not all of Isabela's humor relates to sexual innuendo whereas Zevran's greatest performance contained none of it.

While I never found Zevran to be a funny character, thus I would normally kill him early on; while I do like Isabela; but I agree that they could have done a few more companion banters without any sex in them at all (there are some sex less ones from her side once you have a romance with her, as when Merrill asks why she is happy, and she just says she is, or when Merrill asks what she will do later, if she wants to leave, and she answers that she would, if a certain someone could be convinced to leave with her.

Non of them are humerus at all btw - but neither are they jokes about ****s and mammaries ~

Merrill is broken. Isabella is so difficult without looking at the guide she is nearly broken. If merrill gets fixed i could end up liking her a whole lot more. It's a shame.....The Liara problem when ME2 was first released almost made me quite Bioware..if it hadn't been for the forums I may have.

If it wouldn't have been for the forums i may have given up on dragon Age 2 as well.

I know the devs have a love/hate with the forums, but the forums saved them a fan by clarifying glitches and poorly executed dialogue wheels.

Merrill is closer to Liara than Tali, imo, but I don't think the similarities are that deep. Liara isn't one tenth as oblivious as Merrill, she is just inexperienced with love and sex.

And, for my tastes at least, Merrill is hilarious.

As for Isabella, liked her, got her to locked friendship without romancing her, she came back for me during the Arishok thing, that meant a lot to me, so I let her have her ship later.

And yes, the way Merrill's questline is broken in Act III is a huge issue.

Go her for a workaround, if you're playing on a PC:

Knowing Merrils VA from them filming Torchwood around here makes Merril a must have. At first I was just carrying her , but later she became an indispensable member of the party.

She can't heal, but she is one of only two mages, and she can be crazy powerful as cc/dps.

looks like a 10 year old? lol Then you haven't seen 10 year olds, apperantly. Oh and did I mention that the romances are optional and just a small very little significanse having portion of the game?

Which comedic manasterpiece was that? All of Zevran's funniest moments I saw involved either sex or death. His lines involving neither weren't nearly as funny that I recall.

I do like Zevran quite a bit, but I find it funny you seem to be presenting him as some sort of paragon of virtue when the majority of his lines contained sexual innuendo (and often skipping the 'innuendo' part).

His funniest moment by far was his performance with Ohgren. He was a master at bull****ting.

I did? Was it when I called him a tramp, perhaps?

Zevran has some Varric and some Isabela. Isabela just has... Isabela. And that part was equally obnoxious when found in Zevran.

The only character I like in DA2 is Varric. I loved Zevran in DA:O, he is my favorite character! The dialogue between him and the other party members had me LMAO. :D

Broma Brothers? I'll admit that was a funny scene, but Ohgren was the funnier one. (and the pretty one) I don't consider it the best of either of them really, but I did chuckle.

My God, gender equality is like the Godwin's Law of this forum. Is it possible to discuss anything related to female characters in these games without some feminist getting his/her panties in a twist about it?

Oh please, you obviously haven't actually romanced isabela, there is alot more to her than a walking STD, but that's right this is a forum chalk full of blokes that like to complain about something before they actually do it. The best advice I could give you is give isabela a shot, trust me at first I was like sheesh what a skank, but then I got to know her character so much better

*falls over laughing*

I can't stop thinking about what the Arishok's reaction to that would be.

Yeah, I'm going to have to object to Isabella being a poor romance choice. She is exactly what I thought she would be, and I love it. However, with Merrill being the alternative, I'm a bit put off with the fact that I'm going to have this clingy elf-type girl nipping at Hawke's heels with every footstep just because Hawke took her virginity. That and the fact that I'm not too keen on having Hawke's awesome DNA replicated with pointy-ear DNA (for future reference of course, concerning any subsequent DLC or games). I can hear the gossip in the Hanged Man Tavern now: "The Pedophile of Kirkwall"

Aveline would have been a reasonable choice, but she's a bit manly. She does get bonus points for emotional maturity. I see future hero's in Hawke and Aveline's future bloodline had they mated.

Don't get me started on the whole gay thing. Babies ain't happening there, thus you may as well be equating a gay romance with a fling with Isabella. Wham (ouch) bam (ouch), thank you sir!

So yep, Isabella is the appropriate choice (for a male character), given the fact that she'll hang around with you after the fact if you show her some kindness and emotional stability. With a tavern-going witty socialite that knows her way around a dagger, coupled with a pair of epic boobs, what's not to like?
