Seriously, though, every character out there has something to like and something to dislike. If the OP were a straight female, I suppose he'd complain about the choice between a borderline abomination and a pit of seething resentment. I prefer to think of Anders and Fenris in a more positive light, but to each his own.

To my surpise, I'm finding that I like Isabela a great deal more than I thought I would. She'll never be a Dynaheir ("For the right! And I always am!"), but she is a lot more fun... and a lot more complex... than I originally gave her credit for.

DA:O: Morrigan, Leliana
KOTOR: Bastila, Juhani
Mass Effect: Liara, Ashley, Jack, Miranda, ect ect ect
DA2: ... Coolest romanceable character in my opinion is Fenris, and hes a guy.

Btw, Merrill does not = Tali. Tali was an intelligent team mate, and actually 1/2 interesting.

Personally, I liked Ashley from Mass Effect. A tough soldier, not necessarily the most gorgeous or shapely, but a real bundled up NCO type. Also, the return of Liara was nice that she didn't feel so much like a 100 year old child. I really didn't care for either Isabela or Merrill. I don't want a harlot and I don't want a naive 'child'. Aveline would have been pretty interesting were it not for her square jaw of doom.

In my opinion, the best Dragon Age romances have always been with the ones who come across as "free and easy".

Isabella and Zevran have both been surprisingly deep and complex characters, but you have to take the chance and romance them to see this side of their characters.

Compared to previous Bioware games, all of the characters in DAII are rather one-dimensional IMO. I found Merrill amusing at first, but as the game goes on and you learn more about her and her obsession with the mirror, it's hard to really care one way or the other.

I found Isabela repugnant right away, and it only got worse by the conclusion of act 2. I was happy to give her the boot. That sort of desperation for attention (whether or not it masks insecurity) irritates me in the real world as well as a fictional one.

Agreed.  My perception of her changed more than any other character during the course of Origins.  Once I gave her the mirror, it was very apparent I'd judged her too harshly.  I missed those moments in DAII.

I don't see what the problem is. Both are very different personalities and bring different things to the table as long term love interests.

Isabella is the diseased wh*ore with the heart of gold while Merrill is the sweet Dalish blood mage lacking in human social graces.
