I'll agree with this,  I would have have loved the hell out romance with Varric/Aveline.  I don't care if one's a short stocky man, and the other is a lady with man hands... their personas were awesome.

Well as a grown up, I think she's a great friendship. But as a grown up, I found helping that friend on a romance of her choosing to be far more satisfying than being able to sleep with her. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Absolutely. I play my character for keeps. No way I would have him with Isabella (she screws people as you play the game...) and a blood mage? You can't be serious.

I actually really like Merrill. It seems like you never even played her because she was well written. I can tell that you are just trolling when you insult the look of Merrill (it was explained like 50 that ALL elves look like that). Isabela on the other hands, I could do without. Her one-liners were humerous though

I don't think she is dumb, as she said she has no experience with people. She is smart in what she knows what she is doing just very bad at expersing it in which makes people think she is dumb

It's funny. Bethany is about the only normal female in your group. They made Isabella and Merril so undesirable that there are actually quite a few people who'd like to romance Bethany. I'm not one of them, but it's still funny.

Bethany as a not-sister romance would have been another Ashley or Jacob, which I think most of us could do without.  Though with all the WrongS***t that goes down in act 3, incest would have been about par for the course.

Yeah but so are the others. Liara/Tali = Merril    Jack = Isabella, these two are quite different but still somewhat the same. I'd say Merril is a lot more similar to Liara/Tali, but just seems younger and underage.

Dunno if I'd equate Merril to Tali.  Tali's your socially adjusted little sister and Merril's an unrelated minor, which makes MerrilMancing less creepy in a sense.  There's definitely a lot of Liara and Morrigan thrown in, but some of her lines are so ridiculous that they come off as pandering.

I was pleasantly surprised by Isabella, but that may be because I had really low expectations.  Seems like her trampitude is at least based on some conscious value judgments, where Jack & Miranda don't seem to understand their own damage.

Merril     never seemed underage to me, but then again I go to school were most the girls are ether really skiny or really......large, so that never really bothered me, and her manorisms made me just think of some poor small city girl stuck in LA or NY.

And I wouldnt say that Jack = Isabella, I liked Isabella and thought se was rather well done. Jack on the other hand was anoying and I shoved her down in the cargo hold and hoped the new armor caved and killed her.

I really enjoyed the two options despite the limited facets to either character. The voice acting for Merrill made up the majority of her charm, and her innocence. Isabela seemed like a shallow character at first but after uh.. plumbing her depths through befriending her you discover she's one of the more vulnerable characters employing her temptress persona for protection. Although I do have one complaint-- one minute she professes her love for Hawke, the next she's doing the dirty with old pal Zevran. I was thoroughly appalled.

I am one of those "sexist jerks" who look at beauty first, personality second, yet I find Isabella to be distressingly annoying as hell. Even Morrigan had more depth to her character than that supposedly "strong" woman who can't accept Hawke's help to deal with Castillo.

Merrill, irresponsible, and I couldn't stand her after her final mission.

I however, enjoyed the character of Aveline more than those two combined.

Merrill is quite bad though in my opinion, you have to constantly tell her she is right when it's obvious she is dead wrong. Shamlessly pandering to her delusions is not cool in my book.

Assuming your analysis is right in the first place, only straight guys got screwed over? What about lesbians? We do actually play games like this too, y'know.

I don't recall anything indicating that Isabella has STDs. Honestly, I don't even recall implication that she does, though I'd wager any such implication was not meant as actually being the case. Isabella has very exacting standards, though she does make it seem like she'll sleep with anyone and anything. 

And, frankly, she's essentially a female Zevran with Duelist instead of Assassin. 

As for Merrill, yes, she does seem very innocent and naive, which are traits we associate with children, but are hardly limited to children. As for looking like a 10-year-old, hardly. She's short and petite, sure. She's an elf. The only game I've seen not depict elves as such is Final Fantasy XI. But seriously, if liking short and petite girls is pedophilia, then I guess asian girls are never legal? Riiiiight.

You're welcome to your opinion, certainly, but you're taking it a step too far in saying "[People who exclusively like women] got screwed."
