Exactly, they will understand when they grow up, hopefully, she is easily the most well developed character friendship in the game along with Verric.
Well as a grown up, I think she's a great friendship. But as a grown up, I found helping that friend on a romance of her choosing to be far more satisfying than being able to sleep with her. I wouldn't have changed a thing.
This.
That romace quest is 10 times funnier if you bring Isabella along.

If isabella technically being 'loose' bugs you, just kill any guy that looks at her then you can feel satisifed that after the 3 year mark you won't even fit....
Loose or not those cannons she has are worth persuing a relationship.

Haha, I thought the same thing at first. When I played the demo, I had to wonder who hit her with the ugly stick. But her face kind of grew on me now. I don't see it that bad anymore. Either that, or they changed her appearance since the demo.

Merril is one of my favorite BioWare characters though... You obviously don't understand her character very well, but then again, no one does because you can't talk to your companion characters whenever you like and learn back story like Origins allowed you to do...
A girl who betrayed her mentors (keeper) teachings and ignoring the keepers advise to the point of having to leave her clan. (even though the Keeper was the one that taught her everything she knows about magic and the history of the dalish) who makes deals with demons (though most every mage in ferelden, not just her keeper, knows that is a bad idea) while trusting them to have her same intentions.
Take her into the fade and tell me she knows how to deal with demons..... Plus there are many spoilers that I can't talk about here.
I can't stand how confident she is in her ignorance. She is just a nieve little girl taking many stupid steps trying to be some hero of the dalish.....

Dude the Demon got her with what she wanted to hear (Which it does to everyone else except Hawke and Anders) and She knows what she was getting into which is why she wanted you to go with her when she wanted to go at see her "Friend".DieHigh2012 wrote...

At every point she knew what she was doing (Which is why she made sure you want with her ever where, as the just in case) but didn't think about what it was really doing to her family, which is where yes she was ignorent and she paid that price.
Maybe if the Keeper put some trust in her, maybe Merril would find the lost history of the Dalish but no! They don't want to take the risk!
She is willing to die to active this, And I will be right next to her no make sure nothing goes wrong!

The only decent characters in DA are the ones you can't romance. Varric and Aveline are much better choices and you can't get them. Instead you get the mad terrorist Anders, emo brooding elf Fenris, **** Isabela and immature Merrill.
Agreed. Sebastian was ok. But I HAD to have Anders in my party cus he's the best healer, and I felt like I HAD to go SPOILERblow up the chantry cus it was Anders set piece culmination.
Aveline and Varric were by far my favourite supporting characters. I don't think I ever DIDNT take Aveline with me. And I only switched out Varric when I was doing Sebastian's missions.

I find Isabela hilarious, she makes me laugh quite a bit... The only other companion that accomplished that was Awakening-Anders.
Haven't romanced either one of them 2 but I still like them and they suit my Hawke just fine.

Isabella was actually a good romance option. Well written and difficult to to get her to fall in love with you. (I wasen't the sarcastic guy, and she tends to disprove of most of the good guy/diplomatic options)
But its nice to see her slowly open up. (no, not her legs, get your minds out of the gutter)
Merrill is quite bad though in my opinion, you have to constantly tell her she is right when it's obvious she is dead wrong. Shamlessly pandering to her delusions is not cool in my book.
Actually, you don't. (spoiler)

I don't feel like writing an extended response, but suffice to say that I found Isabela to be the *best* romance in a Bioware game, not the worst, although the flow was broken a bit by the time-skips. Merril could be a bit irritating at times, and I couldn't see myself pursuing a romance with her even in a game, but she's far from a terrible character.Morning808 wrote...

An incredibly loose pirate with implied STDs and an irritating "cute" elf who looks and acts like she's 10 years old. Straight guys really got screwed over this time IMO. Nice work Bioware. Better luck next time. <_<
Assuming your analysis is right in the first place, only straight guys got screwed over? What about lesbians? We do actually play games like this too, y'know.
I don't recall anything indicating that Isabella has STDs. Honestly, I don't even recall implication that she does, though I'd wager any such implication was not meant as actually being the case. Isabella has very exacting standards, though she does make it seem like she'll sleep with anyone and anything.
And, frankly, she's essentially a female Zevran with Duelist instead of Assassin.
As for Merrill, yes, she does seem very innocent and naive, which are traits we associate with children, but are hardly limited to children. As for looking like a 10-year-old, hardly. She's short and petite, sure. She's an elf. The only game I've seen not depict elves as such is Final Fantasy XI. But seriously, if liking short and petite girls is pedophilia, then I guess asian girls are never legal? Riiiiight.
You're welcome to your opinion, certainly, but you're taking it a step too far in saying "[People who exclusively like women] got screwed."
When you walk into Anders home base.
Anders: don't keep coming back to me with these diseases
Isabella: isn't that what magic is for?
Hawke: I don't want to know
Odd, I had Anders and Isabella in my party most of the time and went to Anders' place on numerous occasions and never saw that conversation.
Still, she has a point.
And, frankly, my char's about as sexually open as Isabella is. She just only sleeps with women, which there are sadly far fewer oppurtunities (why that male elf and not Idunna? *sigh*) to do.

But even on my male character Fenris and Anders tried to jump into my butt hole more than Isabella wanted a throw down behind a dirty alley.

You only see that conversation if she's not in your party. Its replaced by a different scene where Anders makes about Pirates she takes offense to.
Plays out completely different

Yeah the romance opitions weren't that great, female characters have better choices IMO.
But even on my male character Fenris and Anders tried to jump into my butt hole more than Isabella wanted a throw down behind a dirty alley.
Funny, they didn't seem very interested in my girl at all, not that I wanted them to be. Then again, my gal regularly explodified things with her extremely large sword/axe/hammer and told them both "No" at the first opportunity.
Seriously, though, I loved my romance with Merrill. I was actually planning to romance Isabella, but just got so hooked by Merrill that I couldn't resist romancing her. Just wish it wasn't bugged to have the epilogue say you're with Isabella if you slept with her at all, regardless of what you actually did.
