With Dragon Fail 2 and Mac Walters' writing "skills" I wouldn't get my hopes up that much

For me ME3 > Skyrim. I loved Morrowind but Oblivion left me flat. And in general while Bethesda games are great fun, the narratives and characters are usually too weak to really grip me. Don't get me wrong, I am very much looking forward to it - a lot - but I'm looking forward to ME3 more.

EDIT: In my opinion.

You should know by now that mentioning CoD, battlefield or...well any shooter will get you trolled here.

Why would it? Mass Effect 2 is a shooter.

Are people in this thread seriously comparing the shyte-fest that was Modern Warfare 2 to the unmitigated beauty of Mass Effect 2?

Black Ops was a lot better than MW2 and even it doesn't come close to so much as touching Mass Effect 2's shoes. I've never played a Battlefield game so I can't make a judgement on that. Skyrim... it could possibly be better than ME3, although Elder Scrolls games typically have bare-bones plots.

I'm confident Mass Effect 3 will be my 2011 GOTY.

Unless Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton is released. The game is an orgasm personified; two of the greatest franchises ever in one game.

I think LA Noire may be a surprise knockout for both Skyrim and ME3.

I can't help but have high hopes. I simply feel that the ME series is the better of the two. As long as ME3 deosn't borrow anything from DA2, I think we'll be safe. Being the final game in the series, there has to be a greater focus on plot this time as well.

And please Bioware, don't ditch the team from ME2

I place a freindly man's bet it won't be nearly as good as either. To me, it looks little different than the other Rockstar games.

I have no doubts that ME3 will be outstanding. BioWare has a long history of great story-telling and character development. That said, I don't know if I'd say "greatest gaming achievement of all time". While ME1 had it's flaws, it was arguably a better written game. And as others have said, with games like Skyrim and Battlefield 3 on the horizon (I'm sorry, CoD games don't even qualify for the list), the competition is extremely steep.

I hope they prove me wrong, I am all for ME3 blowing my expectations completely out of the water, but I'll wait and see before I make any judgments.

Maybe not, but we aren't talking about RPG of the year here are we? The topic is game of the year. And if I want a Rockstar sandbox experience, there's only one company that can provide it.

ME2 was merely adequate. It was nice if you wanted to play a shooter instead of an RPG, and you didn't want to pay attention to the story too much.

Deus Ex holds my attention for the immediate future, I'm just hoping ME3 has a better end boss than ME2.

I know ME2 is a shooter (and an RPG, you don't have to stick to one genre). Which is why is funny that its seems like every time anyone mentions any other shooters, even TPS cover shooters unless your mocking them you seem to get trolled. Even if only comparing them on combat.
It doesn't matter, I was just being an ass.

Well it wasn't as good as Gears of War, but they still have time to dial it in.

Now that I think about, COD and Battlefield are technically RPGs with there upgradable classes, and such.

Just because Mass Effect 2 doesn't have broken gameplay, it doesn't make it a shooter.

The RPG genre has seen significant growth and most gamers seem to give broken combat mechanics a pass in current generation RPG titles (sorry Alpa Protocol and Mass Effect to a certain extent). Mass Effect 2's fully functional, fluid, and nuanced gameplay DOES NOT make it a third person shooter.

Hmh, Mass Effect 1 and 2 ARE 3rd Person Shooter and RPG as well.

I think the only thing ME2 really stumbles at is the lack of multiplayer. Bioware really should up the ante there, and go all out with ME3.

So it's a flight simulator then?

So the guns and the cover based third person shooting doesn’t make ME2 a TPS? ME1 was also a TPS.  It doesn't matter what you choose to label the game or if ME2 is technically a TPS with RPG elements or a RPG with TPS elements.

A quote from a dev for Arkham City:

“In addition to that, we didn’t want to do a multiplayer game because it would have meant splitting the team in half really – having guys focusing on the multiplayer mode while the other half focused on the single-player game. I think that would have resulted in two average games rather than one awesome game.”

I applaud Rocksteady for realizing this, and sticking to their guns instead of selling out. For an action game, this says a lot, as most gamers now expect a mediocre singleplayer campaign supplemented with a, well...mediocre multiplayer mode. For some reason, that's supposed to make the game more complete. =]

What's Arkham City? Never heard of it. Guess it wasn't that interesting. Would be a shame for ME3 to wind up in the same boat, sunk by Bioware's own "dedication."

I mean, they can either be serious about making the combat more exciting, or they can keep limping around weakly trying to pander to both sides and not really pleasing either. Should also be noted that the "true RPG fans" already hate ME2 anyways, so why try to please them? They're a failed demographic that will never be happy unless Bioware makes Baldur's Gate 3.

Make a decision, guys. You'll never break out of your sub 3-million sales by trying to play both fields.
