does magic actually make him worse?

i was thinking that if you used him as a low damage attacker, upgraded tempest could help out a lot vs invisible assassins... assuming that damage will bring them out of stealth (not too sure on this yet, haven't payed attention that much) and even on nm... a low magic low damage staff anders wouldn't hurt that bad.

maybe im wrong, lmk what you guys think
