Then she would laugh at you.

Not only is Zevran manlier than Alistair, I bet Morrigan is as well.

BioWare bowed to the notion that the majority of gamers who are not gay would end up resisting the idea that a gay/bi male can't resemble somebody like Alistair. A human, athletic, masculine, white male.

As opposed to an elven, athletic, masculine, white male.

This boils down to 'all elves are girls.'

If only they had made elves a similar height to humans, we wouldn't be in this mess =]

Ok people would still probably be upset, but I think the tinniness factors into why people don't associate him with being masculine. Not to say you can't be tiny and ultra thin and not be masculine...it just doesn't help.

The toolset is there for a reason.  Go forth and mod.

I dare not open the toolset for fear that I would cause it to implode via my own incompetence and general bafoonery. Image IPB

Still, I found this little tidbit that was kindly posted by Sheryl Lee on the other forums to be rather inspiring in terms of the quality of the romances, specifically Zevran's. It seems the romances will be very fluid in terms of reacting to our choices IG as opposed to unfolding the same way each playthrough. At least, that's my very early interpretation of her comment.

Here's my take on this article. I think the writer was trying to sleep with characters as early and as frequently as he could. (That's okay, it's a valid way to play the game.) Some characters will sleep with you much earlier in the relationship, just like some people in real life. There is nothing in this article that says you can't have a meaningful, monogamous relationship with Zevran. Because you can.

The original post can be found here if anyone is interested. Image IPB

Just quoting to indicate I appreciate the feedback myself.  I will admit some of my sterotype was based on appearence (elf) and that isn't the best thing to do.

I have been convinced, not just from dev posts, but by other forum posters as well, that Zevran is going to be well worth a try.  Heck it is just cool to have the option for a change in what I think is going to be a truly awesome game.

My biggest problem now is my party plan went all to HECK!  It was going to be Dog, Alistair and Morrigan.  I want to play a rogue/ranger.   Not sure I can survive without a mage though so Ranger, Dog, Zevran and Alistair might be tough.  So now I need to consider being a Mage or dump Alistair for Morrigan or Wynne (as I kinda want to see the dialogue with Alistair and Morrigan).

Ugg. .. decisions.  I know this is going to require at least two play throughs!

I'm guessing you can still pursue the romance at the camp, no? And you could still play as a rogue and romance Zevran at the same time- maybe occasionally taking him on missions that are less cold-blooded (e.g. having to have ever member be the optimum choice) .

It depends on what kind ofRogue/ Ranger build you are going for. But Im guessing you could develop Zev differently enough to make him viable.

To add to that, who confronts you about your dalliances may change depending on how far you've gotten in the various romances you're engaged in.

(spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler)

If Zevran cares for you enough, he may confront you about starting something with Morrigan, for example. So he is by no means only a "wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am" afterthought.

And it's not always a "him or me" type conversation, like the article seems to imply. Sometimes followers are just a little confused and want some clarification. Imagine you're Leliana, and you've started a fun flirtation with this really cute boy. And suddenly your learn that your cute boy is also sleeping with Zevran. Hang on a minute, is your boy into girls, or boys? Not that there's anything wrong with either, but maybe you'd like to hear what the cute boy has to say about it.

I was thinking (hard) to myself 'Why is it that people don't think Zevran is manly? Why would someone consider Alistair more manly than Zevran?'

Then it struck me. Like a thunderbolt.

How much more manly is Zevran with a beard? About a bajillion times more manly.

....At this very moment, I heart you.  But y'know...not in a stereotypical token gay way.

And at this point - at least for now - I feel it's makes as much sense to respond to the OP as repeatedly bang my head against a wall, and am left with this feeling about the whole thing.  (Warning: link is not PC - though I whole-heartedly agree with it)

That is the problem with elves, not them being slightly thinner and shorter than humans. They cant grow beards. If they could, they would be just as manly as any other race.

With a strong chin like that who needs a beard to appear manly? Not Zevran, that's who!

Eh I like Human sized Elves. Elves with beards....just give off a creepy Dionysus/Satyr vibe to me.

I just wanted to input my own thanks for Mr. Gaider's (1) inclusion of the LGBT community in the writing for Dragon Age and (2) input in this and other forum discussions. They are appreciated.

Also...

I'm curious how people would feel if Sten was the M/M option? Would the complaint be not having someone hot? And then Zevran would be a good alternative or would Sten be alright?

It really is more of a curiousity thing as opposed to me saying "things could be worst" or something.

Wow....I think Zevran with a beard is too much awesome for one person to contain...I cannot look away. *Whispers to himself* You're a straight man, but that doesn't mean you don't appreciate coolness...it's perfectly normal...*mesmerized*

Most likely they'd complain that they didn't want a "bear" for a lover.

Though he doesn't quite encapsulate that subculture (appearance wise) as well Zevran encapsulates the kinda metrosexual look. Mainly on account that...Sten isn't that hairy.

But yeah I would think it would be a different group (unless this group really is just purely upset its not Alistair; which doesn't seem to be the case) complaining they didn't get a more conventionally attractive romanceable person.

Which would be valid... considering what people into in-game romances seemingly want.

I'm a straight female, and neither M/M nor F/F interests me in the slightest. I'm saying that to show that I have no personal stake in this matter.
Is Zevran the elf  too obvious a choice for the M/M? Well, maybe some view it as that, and that's an opinion. Orlando has a lot to answer for.

What I was a bit put off about was the lovin' and leavin' part, my  PC wouldn't like that a bit, she's very old fashioned in that area. So I'm glad that was cleared up, and my PC can pursue a monogamous, committed relationship with Zevran. I wasn't taking the open relationship for granted anyway, because the individual development of characters would certainly allow him to turn from the 'one night stand' kind of guy to a committed partner.

Was he a cop-out to keep the US Watchdogs at bay? Maybe, maybe not. I can't say because I'm not in anyone's head, but I tend to believe Mr. Gaider.

As it stands, I'm glad that same-sex relationships are in this game. It's a huge step up from the past. Gawd, I remember way back when, when a friend and I tried to take the gender check of Valen, because he wanted to romance him.

Why no gay dwarfs? I blame Gimli.:P

As for the beard on Zevran - I will say nothing. Nothing!
