So I'm on my second playthrough.
The first time I was swinging a big swords around on normal difficulty, this time I'm playing as a rogue on Hard. Also, this time I want to save Bethany, to use her later. So I want to take both Bethany and Anders into the deep roads.
But... they force you to use Varric if I remember right. So I'll have no warrior. btw I'm a dual wield rogue.
How the hell can I get past the dungeon bosses without a tank?
I'm willing to respec in any way.

Any ideas?

I'm not going to mention what happens to Bethany if you take her with you unless you really want me to. I took Aveline, Varric and anders with me as a dual wield rogue.

ZD - I don't want to spoil what happens to Bethany, but I'm going to say this.

I was a mage and brought Anders, Isabela, and Varric. It was difficult at times but as long as you micromanage Anders healing and using his glyphs, along with some hefty use of flasks you should be fine.

I played on Hard as a mage. Carver and Anders died within minutes during the final boss. Using only Hawke and Varric, it still went down. It's possible.

Edit:  As long as you can heal and do AoE, it should be fine.

I usually take Merril to use as a Semi-Tank with the Super Healer Anders. Varric and me whether I am a rogue or mage

yes i did it on hard. infact i wish i did it all ranged almost. only melle was my main toon. didnt make any difference. as long as the main toon has a high health pool ur ok.

the main thing on hard about deep raods is youll need potions like woah... the deep roads main boss takes FOREVER. to down.

If you went Dualist and got the Throw the Gauntlet ability, then kited the big ****s around, you should be fine.

What happens to her. I didn't take her to the Deep Roads.

Nah you don't need a warrior for deep roads on hard, i did it with DWRogue Hawke / Bela / Anders / Merrill first time around.

Since I did it without healer and not really using any potions on hard, I doubt you need a Warrior for it either.

DW Rogue Hawke, Varric, Isabela, Fenris was the team I ran through it first time. And Fenris was not build as dedicated tank either ^.^

To save you some misery, DO NOT take Bethany to the Deep roads with you..You will regret it and I don't want to have you start a new game.  :)

I had my dual wield in the first play through on Hard, and found it doable, although I had Ander's learn the Regroup skill, mandatory.  It got me through the battle. I used it and had to keep Anders alive just to make sure it happened when necessary. Also, don't underestimate how important it is to hide behind the pillars in the final battle during the AOE spells of the boss. Very, very important.

Also, I don't recall if I was past the point where I had learned the assassin skills of Mark of Death and Assassinate, but they both make the rogue particularly awesome.

All ranged party is the BEST party to beat the ARW, hands down. If you build your characters right (nuking, primarily) the ARW will always be on "regenerating" mode, meaning you only have to fight the spawns and no rolling etc.

It is very easy and very fast, and, btw, I'm talking about nightmare, in hard it would be a joke.

As for the rest of the Deep Roads, that is even easier. There are large tunnels with a lot of space so nuking is perfect. The only trouble can be the mature dragon if you don't have a force mage. However if you have Gravitic Ring it is a joke since it is considered an elite, so it gets locked in place for 20 seconds. That and Combustion Granade and it stays in place without problems. Mix it with ice spells/staffs and Varric exploiting brittle and you are set.

You really don't even need a tank on Nightmare mode. You can suffice with a 2 handed warrior, if proberly built and equipped. 2 items come to mind.1) Item that gives you immunity to flanking 2) one that makes you immune to crits.. Yes they are out there, you just have to find them. Save your money. :)

I went through the Deep Roads on Nightmare with an Archer Rogue with Varric, Anders, and Bethany. None of it is bad at all. I decided to turn the game down for the ARW, but that's mostly because it's the most inane battle of the game. Not representative of the game as a whole, and it requires absolute reconfiguration of your party to deal with. Not that I couldn't beat the ARW on Nightmare if I wanted to, but I definitely didn't want to spend 30 minutes of my life kiting a pile of rocks...

But be aware that it is MUCH easier to go through the Deep Roads if you have Dog. And if you decide to take on the Monstrous Spider, use the stairs to glitch out the Spider, otherwise it's another kite-fest/pain in the rear.

Seriously, what's with the chorus of "Don't take Bethany"s? The OP's line-up includes Anders.

I bet OP already beat this stage lol, so this is addressed to the newer inquiries...

I managed to pull it off with archer shadow rogue Hawke, Varric, Anders and Bethany on Hard. I had since respecced to dual wield though. I think the tough fights are the dragon, the treasure room with golem + a crap load of shades and the ancient rock wraith. Positioning is key in those battles, move around a lot to avoid getting hit as much as possible and know when to uhh... run. The mabari is extremely useful as it tanks the smaller adds like the dragonlings (I don't know how he did it but he did). I switched the tactics a bit to get the party heal when health is 50% instead of the usual 25%. Beth is deep in Entropy for nice control and Creation to help Anders with healing when he is on CD.

As for Beth and Carver, well bring them if you want but bring Anders along too or you'll cry

I'm actually currently running my second playthrough as a DW rogue and going the exact same route. Want to try bringing Beth so need Anders and that leaves us with 2 rogues, 2 mages. So far its been pretty easy even on Hard. I haven't gotten to the final boss though. He was a huge PitA on my first playthrough but I didn't respec to handle him and he was immune to most of my cool abilities. Not so this time, buddy. Your rocky butt is going down!! My only worry is that he'll down my rogue Hawke in like 2 hits and I'll spend the rest of the battle kiting and running away like a little girl.

No.  I find tank builds useless.

In answer to the OP question, the easiest Deep Roads run I've had was with two archer rogues and two mages- PC archer, Varric, Bethany, Anders.  Almost too easy.  My PC was assassin/ duelist.
