Firestorm has been one of my staple spells for my Hawke, and I've been using it the entire game without incident. For some reason it's mostly stopped working now though, usually working only once out of 10 uses or so. Tracing back through my saves this seemed to have started occuring between finishing Repentance and starting Blackpowder Courtesy, although I'm not sure if it's linked to progress or not.
I've tried removing all my equipment but that doesn't seem to have any effect on it. It's getting kind of annoying trying to cast it and nothing happening at all. I can't test it with Anders or Merril either since neither of them know the spell.

Do you have any sustained spells turned on when it doesn't work, also have you tried different party members incase it is something they are doing?

What do you mean by "not working"? I've noticed when I use AoE spells, sometimes after I click on them and then drag the circle to where I want it to be, pressing the button doesn't work and I have to exit out of the spell using B and then try again to be able to get it to work. Is this the same issue?

No, I cast it, and then Hawke goes through the animation for it but the spell just doesn't occur. Switching party members seems to have done the trick, after taking out Sebastian it seems to work fine, no idea why.
