How about having companions be able to romance each other?

I just thought of this. Doesn't it seem odd that only the player gets to have a love life and everyone else is practically celibate?

Why not have your companions be able to having something going on between them if certain circumstances are met. Like having say Anders and/or Merrill/Isabella/Fenris in your party together, get enough banter between them and they start dating or something.

Maybe even have love trianges if Hawke gets involved. Like him and Fenris competing for the affections of Merrill or something like that.

I would totally go for a Merril/Carver hookup.

Sounds like a good idea I wonder if Bioware would ever listen... It would be nice to also hear them comment on each other relationships and if they hate/like you they more negative/positive to who ever will be the main character in DA3 should you speak to them.

Fenris and Isabela totally hook up if you're not romancing them.

I almost thought this might happen with Varric and Aveline.

Thats not saying much. Isabella probably hooked up with Anders, Carver, and Varric too. Probably even Merrill. :P

Isabela did hook up with Anders, but it was back at the Pearl in Ferelden, a loooong, time ago. ;)

That being said, the ample amount of flirting between Fenris and Isabela made me giggle.  'Specially since Fenris didn't seem to understand half of it.

I would totally ship the pirate wench and grumpy elf.

This would actually be pretty cool. I'm not a fan of "pairing up" ALL the characters, but having your sibling get a suitor would be a nice little plot device. Although I'm not sure I want my siblings dating any of my companions. They're a shady lot.

I thought it might come up and use the friendship/rivalry mechanic - a friendly sibling would approach you asking about love advice, you'd point them to a party member, and if they were friendly, they'd hook up with your sibling and if they were rivals, they'd turn them down. Course, then there was the whole Deep Roads and sibling leaves the party thing...

For some reason, I was sure it would happen between Carver and Isabela at some point but it didn't.

No I'll just get jealous like I did in bg and take one for myself to break them up.

This could certainly add an interesting element to gameplay. You could play cupid like you do with Aveline.

No one touches Cassandra though, she's mine.

Why? We already have Isabela making her rounds on everyone. Why does everyone else need to hook up?

I would rather not have to compete with another for the love of a girl. It would feel too much like Harvest moon so you can imagine how pissed off I was when Aveline hooked up with Guardsmen Donnic when I was trying to romance her.

I'm a little bit biased, having sketched out a similar idea about the sibling competing for a LI.

It's certainly something that would deserve to be designed from the start. Character compatibility, and all that, but would also take a bit more design and hashing out.

Personally, I'd favor the sibling compete: get some of that rivalry/sibling tension going, whether the two of you fight over, or try and help the other. Lots of ways that could go.

But for this game? Not so much: too much crazy in most the LI's.

As far as I know, they do "romance" each other. I've no idea if it was a glitch or not, but I finally decided to try romancing a companion to see if I could actually form a connection, I chose Fenris, and after Hawke slept with him he had a little banter with Isabela about how they (Isabela and Fenris, that is) had slept together and were planning to do it again. Nice. Dumped the elf during our next talk :D

Edit:

Bloody hell, it was a glitch! Oh well. We'll try again, Eeyore :)

Aveline was never romancable in the first place. Not to mention there is the potential thing about you killing Wesley.

Well trying to remain super spoiler free, I didnt know that on my first playthrough. Even though that woman's chin could cut diamonds, she is strong, tough and not a lesbian which turns me on.

You just know Varric slept with every female in the party. Go on, search your feelings. You know it to be true.

to be fair, there are at least 2 characters in the game that isabella does not want to sleep with. She's got standards you know!

maybe that would be going a little too far, Merril is a blood mage... Fenris doesn't like her, plus if you were playing a game over the course of 10 years i'm sure one of the chicks would "be with baby" and that isn't going to help the bloody situation is it.... maybe there is too much romance in these RPGs and not enough rpg.
ps. why do i have to tell a guy in a game that i'm as straight as the shortest distance between two points? not sure why SS and bi is acceptable in the middle ages... (just sayin). maybe there should be box we can tick in one of the menus (straight) (******) (bi).

Maybe they have a medieval form of protection in Thedas. Mabari Skin Condoms? xD

Also I can see a Fenris and Merrill rival romance. They hate each other so much that they take it out on each other.... between the sheets.

Also the beliefs and views of the people of Thedas are rooted from a different religion than our world. Thats why nobody objects to homosexuality in Dragon Age.
