I'm not a modder, I don't even play the game on a pc.

But I'm just wondering, why hasn't a toolset been released for this game yet and will it ever be?

Seems that this is something modders need to change things around.

I don't even get to 'play' the end results of modding, I just get to enjoy viewing it on youtube. That's all I really need I think it looks cool and SOMETIMES adds more to the story.

So yeah, why no toolset?

It won't be released because people actually make quest mods and add in new content which Bioware wants to do themselves to make money.
It's funny.

You don't know that Jaymo147. The toolset took time to come out with DA:O, they just might be taking their time to get to the tool set out, like before. Now i'm not saying your wrong either, we just don't know.

Despite the fact that they're using one to make DA2 at the moment, doesn't mean it's fit to be seen by mere mortals. The DA:O toolset had some flaws in the demonstration videos.

Let them take their time giving us a quality toolset rather than hasting. Though I would like to get an answer confirming the Toolset is being updated to work with DA2.

It would be a hard process to dig trough the thousands of lines of Hawke to use. Stand-alone campaigns is the way to go in this game, except for minor dungeons and small quests you accept, no questions asked, do it and get paid.

The toolset they used to develop DA2 is a modified version of the DA tool we already have. All they need to do is release the update for the toolset so we can use it on DA2. Be patient, they had to rush through making the game, so give them some time to catch their breath and figure out what to do. Just as a reference (and if I remember correctly), the DA toolset was release almost 6 months after Origins was initially released.

Agreed, with very few exceptions most of the paid content was better than the stuff people added in on their own. The Modding community is usually best for taking the time to do things and fix little gaps that as a developer you don't have the time/money to do. Such as the redesigned mod, or the additional atmosphere mod. Or heck one of the best ones I downloaded for DAO was the one that made Morrigans robe match the trailer. That swamp is supposed to be cold (from what I know about the world it's southern swamp giving way to tundra, giving way to Thedas arctic shelf), I never got how she could run around with that next-to-nothing "robe" and not freeze to death.

Not quite; DAO PC was originally scheduled to release in early 2009, but it was delayed until the console ports were done. While the PC version was waiting to be released, the developers worked on the toolset, and released it at the end of the same week that DAO finally was released.

Actually, Bioware employees have said that the toolset and mods help keep the game installed on PCs long enough for the DLC to be developed and released.

Honestly i think most PC players of DA:O and DA2 have the consoles aswell i know i do :P only reason i buy the PC version is the Toolsets they release and Bioware must realise I'm not the only person that does it for that reason ((Atleast i think i'm not the only one that doe's it for that reason))
Give them time I'd prefer to have a quality Toolset to tinker and play with than one as Hastened as the game itself was, Though in noway am i saying DA2 is anything less than awesome because it is awesome, I just think they could have done so much more with it.

Pretty sure Laidlaw stated a while ago that there will be no toolset for DA:2. He said this at the same time as when Bioware told us they were taking out the Tactical View.

No he didn't say no. His quote was There won't be a new toolset, persay." Then went on to explain that the toolset was improved quite a bit and that the public toolsetwould only need an update, which may come at a later date around the release of a future dlc.

Well the good news that even if Bioware did decide not to release the toolset, it would only be a matter of time before there were sufficient player created tools to make up for it. More than 6 months, maybe, but they'd come along eventually.

Considering there is hardly ANY support for the first games toolset, I will be surprised if the second one ever gets one. And I AM a modder, from the days of NWN vanilla. Sadly, the days of fans becoming modders to then becoming possible designers are fading quickly - meanwhile - DLC keeps jumping into the spotlight. =\\ BLAH!

Wow. Talk about leaps of logic.

Do you realize the install base of PCs is 10-100 times that of all consoles combined?

I'd say it is far more likely that PC players of DA don't own either console, don't want to own either of those toys, and wouldn't play a game like DA on them anyway. :)

They have actually said that? Do you have a link or anything?

That's good to know, because if they did say that, they are 100% right. Without mods, I'd already be completely done with the game.

But with mods, I have a ton of things I want to try out. So when DLC rolls around, I'll be psyched to buy it because of mods keeping me interested.

I began DAO on the 360 and played it to death! I had heard of mods but didn't know much about them. It was around that time that I decided it was time to upgrade my pc so I built my own. After taking a look at the mods available for my fav rpgs: Kotor 1&2, Oblivion, FO3, and DAO, I was SHOCKED at the amount of customization I was missing! Too bad you can't mod ME1&2 as extensively as DAO. Anyway, from then on I was a pc gamer! I rushed out and replaced my entire library of games with pc versions.

There are plenty of games to enjoy with both the 360 and the PS3, but with mods, customization, and graphics, I hardly ever touch them now.....save for a few exceptions. I can say I would never have been able to enjoy all the pc games I play nearly as much if I had to go back to their console versions. In fact, it would be impossible now that I think of it. They're all radically different experiences now. But I'm not here to say consoles are bad. I think you should play on whatever works best for you.

It's only a matter of time before either Bioware releases a patch or someone creates a way to fully use the toolset with DA2. Think about how much we can do already without a toolset. Looking forward to it, whichever comes first.

We have a PS3 and an XBOX, but it's mostly my brother playing AC:Brotherhood or my little brother religiously shooting zobmies on CoD. The XBox live is stupid, so we bought a PS3. Paying 500kr (80$) a year to play online and 150$ to buy a wireless adapter is too stupid, while the PS3 is easier to use and PSN is free to use. I find FPSes on consoles to be a drunk-man simulator though and the quickbar is too hard to make a console version of. that's as good.

The PC also allows DX11 and keep in mind the consoles have not had any graphical updates since they hit the market.

I am not trying to say we PC gamers are a superior breed or something, but that the PC remains the best platform for gaming and it seems the Console manufactorers are doing little to compete -- i.e. not allowing mods for most, if not all, games.

I know Gisle, The PC will most likely always be the best gaming platform, Unfortunatly most shops around where i live don't have a Large selection of PC games as they are catering to what sells most ((Console games)) so I went out and got myself a PS3 and I'd had an Xbox 360 gathering dust for awhile, just so i can go into the shop and see a game i've thought about and get it.
I know i atleast was tempted to buy DA2 on Xbox because my local retailer only has the Console Version and i don't like using my card details over the internet :P But in the end i bought it on PC purely because at some point I'm hoping they release a toolset i had as much fun with as DA:O because i play PC games not only because i prefer a Keyboard and Mouse, But because of the Varied customization you wont find on anyother platform.

I think it's much the same way all over; it seems that most of what is in the video game stores is stuff for the consoles. I've had better luck finding a decent selection of PC games in the electronics department of large retail chains here.

Hopefully they will release the toolset, or an update to existing one to make it compatible with DA2. And just to add, I am a PC user and I do not have console and never even plan to get one.

The real point, imo, is not really " give us the toolseeeeeeeet noooow "

More like " are you planning to release the toolset update or no ? "

This silence is a pain :(

I would bet on that they are planning to release one otherwise why even bother with a mod & modding forum?

Its will take a while though as they will want to make it easier than the dev tools are.
