But at sometimes, you don't actually a get a choice, which is a bit annoying, because personally, I'm straight.

This should go if you're gay and want to be without hitting on someone of the opposite sex.

It's frankly bad work of the conversation wheel.  I've been experiencing it a lot lately.

Really, the sentences wrote sometimes have abo****ely NO resemblance to what is actually said, and can really be irritating.  If it wasn't for the little icon in the center, I'd get really frustrated.

Here's what I'm talking about:

When you talk to Anders after you get back.  If you just want to learn your companions and NOT hit on them, you can not with him, unless you ****** him off, there is NO way of winning.

Blah blah, being weighty last time we talked, blah blah

1) Be a good friend
2) Make a sarcastic joke that pisses him off
3) Be an ass, make him mad

He talks

#) Hit on him
1) Encourage him like a friend
2) Be sarcastic, ****** him off
3) Be a jerk, ****** him off

He hits on you

You can:

1) Refuse, because you don't roll that way or don't want him and ****** HIM OFF with a, was it -10 or -15?
2) Hit on him
3) Hit on him

Okay, that's a what the **** moment for me.  With Zevran, if you just wanted to be friendly, you could tell him so without losing a ****-ton of influence.  If you seduced him and broke up with him, that's one thing.  But what the ****? He wasn't even remotely gay in Awakening, now you can't even avoid flirting with him while trying to make friends?

Seriously, this actually pisses me off a little, because I have to potentially ruin any other romance option just to try to learn one of my companions?  What kind of freedom is that?

Really, you can't say pretty much what you did with Zevran, whatever but I don't go that way?

I'm not intending to offend anyone of the homosexual orientation: this should go for any way, I just don't know if this is an isolated incident or if it happens with all companions.

In reality the character companions ONLY react to the main character according to the dialogue options you personally chose. SO if they are gay or staraight it is a direct result of YOUR choice. True that all but one of them goes both ways or has a more " open minded" outlook on relationships as it were. Ultimatley  the only one to blame about said scenario is the player themself.

Yeah, this annoyed me too OP. There really should've been a "I'm flattered, but I'm not like that, sorry!" option. It kind of suggests that if your Hawke isn't gay, he's a homophobe. : X

Anders does that whether you play as male or female, so it has nothing to do w/ being gay. My first female Hawke was almost always sarcastic, so I chose that route and he started glowing again. My second femHawke is much more diplomatic and so she stumbled into the romance, which was weird.  I understand Anders in that you are either on his side or you're not and that's how he sees it. A fine character, but I do a agree there should have been an easier way out of it even if you get rivalry points out of it.

I can agree to the issue generally, that the new conversation style often does not leave real choices. And on top often you don't know exactly what Hawk will really say. I always had this issue with the Dragon Age series, that I had several possible answers and NONE of it was anything I would chose! That was at least for me always one of the basic issues of DA1 and DA2. I was stuck with morally strange choices with often tough consequences, but NONE of the choices to do or say was anything *I* would have done or said!

*headdesk* No one is forcing you into a relationship. Just reject any flirting and end of story?

I don't see what the big deal is, you get rivalry points if you're female and turn him down too.

You just don't get it.

Obviously the writers and developers were going through some inner turmoil.

But thats the point: You cant do it in a "nice" way!
Either you go for relationship, or you have to pi55 him off; here is no "im sorry, im not interest in THAT kind of friendship"-option.

I know the solution. All we need is a damn toolset. Someone can make a mod that prevents you from gaining rivalry points by turning down companions. Bam. Done.

If I could decapitate that bastage at first encounter I would.  20 trips to the "Clinic" is beyond sanity.

That was my point.  I wasn't trying to be homophobic, but there is no option to just turn him down.  You tell him to stop being gay or you be gay, there's no just accepting it and moving on.  You could do this with the chat with Zevran.  But it angers Anders because as he says you're trying to control his emotions. :S

First of all to the OP, no one chooses to be gay. Its a genetic fact. Its forced on us.

If it were a choice do you honestly think people would choose to go through what we homosexuals get put through by society at large if we didnt have to?

No we wouldnt. Its insulting to suggest that its a choice, you sound like a bigot and a religious zealot a little bit saying things like that.

Secondly it is perfectly easy to turn Anders down and not earn the "big" rivalry gain; I did it in my current playthru where I have been chasing Fenris.
I think its great that the characters hit on you on their own; its realistic and fun.

I am gay and I have to put up with Isabela trying to get into my GayManHawke's pants and you dont see me complaining about it.
And you think its perfectly alright to come on here and **** and whine about Anders hitting on your StraightManHawke?

You don't think that is just a bit homophobic? And a LOT hypocritical?

All of you who are doing the whole "Oh im not homophobic but Anders hitting on me grosses me out!" thing. Hate to break it to you but you ARE homophobic.
There is such a thing as passive homophobia you know.

Gay Gamers have to put up with het stuff being shoved in our faces any and every time "romance" is included in games all the bloody time. We dont go onto the forums and whine about how we dont want to see that just cos its not our thing; I find Isabela's to be vaguely repulsive when she pulls the whole "ooo come back to my place" thing with ManHawke with her boobs and ass out. Does absolutely nothing for me, it makes me vaguely uncomfortable.

But do I complain about it? Do i let it bother me? No.

Why? Cos I understand that other people play this game and there ought to be a diverse group of choices so that "everyone" can find something they can enjoy.
The gay romances are totally avoidable, you dont have to reject Anders (check YouTube for the Not Rejecting Anders videos), and the content is totally optional if you actually have the brains to check the icons and text of what your Hawke is saying before you randomly bash a button.

If you are falling over these romances that make you uncomfortable or gross you out its your own damn fault for not paying attention.
You don't have the right to come on here and spew homophobic nonsense and display your idiocy for all to see; the BSN isnt a democracy - its a dictatorship run by Bioware and EA and I am pretty sure such crap even passively is against their Terms of Use.

I am god damn sick of these passive aggressive homophobic rant threads.

Please read more carefully. The complaint isn't about characters showing their sexuality. It's about the game not giving you option to turn them down gently -- you can only either flirt back, or go the red-fist "eeeew, gay" route.

I had no problems with this. Just don't select conversation options with the heart icon unless you want to hit on them.

Ok, gay or straight or Bi for that matter ..sigh.. How much relavence does a " real life " person's sexual orientation have on a "game" ? This is a story plain and simple not a real life soap opera. Lets please keep the focus on the game itself or even the " lore" itself. Not real life endeavours.

Nobody is forcing anything on anyone. Anders hits on Hawke whether they are male or female. If you have a ManHawke and turn him down, you get a SMALL rivalry hit. If you have a Femhawke and turn him down you get the exact same rivalry hit.
