I wasn't the only one then. Why did anders turn gay all of a sudden. Their was nothing that led to him being gay at all in Awakening. Bad writting strikes again.DSerpa wrote...
OP has a point. The only way to reject Anders comes across as a little homophobic. Gaining rivalry points for rejecting him also makes the friendship/rivalry system seem as shallow as the approval/disapproval system.
By the way, am I the only one who was annoyed at the Anders retcon? The guy was the quintessential philanderer in Awakening, and suddenly he's gay/bisexual in Dragon Age II. The only reason I can think of is fan service, which is a ******-poor reason to fundamentally change a character.

Perhaps it was all that rough-housing with the Templars.

IF you didn't know he was gay from that - you really need to replace the batteries in your gaydar.

Some people get aggressive when they have sexual thoughts, but I was refering to the good ole mage tower days.

I have no comment on the sexual aspect of the thread, but...
It's not a bad thing to get rivalry points with someone!
Ten rivalry points is not "-10" -- it's "+10" in a different direction.
Rivalry doesn't mean they hate you, it just means they disagree. Disagree with someone a lot, and you can change their mind.
You can gain a special power by building up rivalry points. These powers can only be gained by developing a rivalry.
Don't be afraid of rivalry points! They are not bad! In my main game, I am actively pursuing rivalry with almost all the most frequent members of my party.
And, this is a no-spoiler forum, but ... well ... sometimes, for certain people, the ending you see to their personal subquest might be considerably more or less horrifying depending on whether you've chosen rivalry or friendship -- and friendship might not always bring about the less-horrifying ending.
Sometimes, friends do awful things and you can only look on in horror, whereas with rivals you can smack some sense into them.
Don't be afraid of rivalry!
Rivalry isn't bad!

Well it explains how he knows all the RPing they like to do in the bed room, also him making fun of Avelines dead husband pissed me off to no end.
sad thing is I loved having him around in DA:OA what the writers did to him was bullcrap.

Actually, it was when I first met him. Right after his recruitment mission. I told him I didn't want him to think of me that way. He said fine and I got frienship points.

Heh.
Ser Pounce-a-lot was actually a reference to A Song of Ice and Fire, at least partially. A character there names his kittens similarly, one of them being Ser Pounce (yeah, the Ser in place of Sir also came from there). The thing is, that character was eight years old...

Yeah, a negative 5 would've resulted in bad rep. I went through that with Merrill.
Perhaps it was just me, but I didn't feel like I got 'hit on' at all. Aside from Fenirs's comments. I actually took that as a compliment (or at least my player did, it is a game after all). From there (his comment) you could say hell ya lets party, or 'thanks dude, you cool to', or get paranoid and say 'I don't swing that way bro'.

He was camp as heck.... Now I understand some people are going to say he had a british accent and not a camp accent. As a brit I can tell you, that was "camp brit" not "straight brit", Anders was Flaming to put it mildly.

Honestly I had no doubt in my mind that he had "an open minded view on romances" as it were. What I was shocked by, was my main character ( a female hawke mage ) was still being approached by Anders. I honestly was not prepared for that , lol. As I had planned that adventure with Merril in mind and here is Anders trying to make his big move ? I honestly dont know why I was surprised at the time, Isabella tried the same damn thing. Right in front of a " romanced Merrill " no less.

Gaining rivalry does not cause you to lose influence with a companion.
In fact, if you gain maximum rivalry, you will have a lot more influence over them.
It is now my crusade to explain this to the playerbase at large.

But thats the point: You cant do it in a "nice" way!
Either you go for relationship, or you have to pi55 him off; here is no "im sorry, im not interest in THAT kind of friendship"-option.
My sarcastic Hawke had no problem with this and at "worst" she got +5 rivalry.
