Best chestpiece in the game - yay/nay?

I'm about to leave act 2 and have just enough gold to grab it for my 2H warr, but I don't remember if there is anything so awesome early in act 3 that I must have.

:pinched:

It sucks. Not even kidding, I think it's the biggest waste of money in the game. The stats on it are nice, but Rune Slots are worth a lot more, and it has none. Warplate of the Champion (which you will get through questing) has two rune slots and, I think, a better base armor value.

Why the Forgotten King armor is even in the game, or why it costs over 100g, I really could not tell you.

After trying it on for a while, I think i'll pass... but if I ever roll around with a SnS tank character, I think this is the armor to have. 20% damage resist and a truckload of defense (gave me 16% dodge when I tried it on) is pretty shmexy.

20% damage resist isn't really worth missing out on the +7 to all stats you could be getting with a Valiance rune slotted in the Champion Warplate. In my opinion.

Also, the full Champion set gives you a set bonus as well.

Actually, putting the Rune of Valiance in the chest is a terrible idea.  It's +7 to stats no matter where you put it, but resist runes give values based on the pieces armor value or something like that.  So, ideally, you put resist runes in the chest, and Valiance in the gloves or boots.

Really?  That seems counter-intuitive, but thanks.  I'll keep that in mind on my current character.

that armor is amazing for a tank, 20% damage reduction, immune to stun, 10% magic reduction...?

why would you bother with anything else. extra armor will not be as useful, extra resists will not be as useful except in certain situations. give me a solid reason not to use something like that

The armor is great especially if your Hawke is high level (> 20ish) because the general armor value provides less and less damage resistant as mob scales to your level. The flat out 20% damage reduction really makes up for that.

It is sad that Cailen is forgotten so quickly :P - I think that is Cailen's armor, sure looks the part.

lol pretty much this. If they brought it down like 90 gold then it be okay to buy it.

I think you're underrating it, but I agree that it's not worth the expense.

1st, your warrior hawke can ignore stats to put into cunning and still acheive 80% cap defense (enemy missing on hitting you).

2nd, it gives u a whooping 20% damage resistance. which i am now at 48% damage resistance.

3rd, 7 str, 7 dex (7% more crit), 7 stamina, 7 con (35health more) and 7 cun (adds dex) is not as good as immune to stun. i would pick immunity over +7 stats any time. the +153 def is something very godly for 50%+ of the game enemies will not be able to hit you.

i am speaking from a tank's point of perspective and just my 2 cents.

On normal, sure. But on Hard or higher I think it's kind of a waste of time to build a "traditional" tank. Defense also doesn't save you from ranged attacks, and I found it to be one of the least important stats in the game. The +7 to all stats is going to translate into more damage, which will do more to keep damage off you than having better damage resist. That's just how DA2 works: killing minions is just as important to tanking as resisting damage. Probably more important.

If DA2 used the same tanking paradigm as Origins, I would think this item was totally justified.
